Skin query - how this possible?!

I have an oily T-zone but recently, its become oily AND dry… mega annoying. I used to use an oil control powder which was good but now the powder seems to soak up the excess oil and the moisture, leaving my skin looking really flaky.

Any tips or suggestions to improve my skin texture… exfoliating doesn’t help and I do moisturise regularly. At least with one skin problem at a time, it was easy to control but two at a time :smack:

I have the same problem. Had a normal oily T-Zone. and now it suddenly became really oily.

Re: Skin query - how this possible?!

oh my gosh i have the same problem on my forehead, nose and chin (imagine that, THREE different places!) i make sure my face is clean and exfoliated before i apply makeup, then i moisturize. that usually helps the flakyness decrease a LITTLE but not completely. how about you find a substitue for the oil control powder. have you tried blotting sheets?

Re: Skin query - how this possible?!

yup blotting sheets work wonders but I liked the minimal coverage of the powder as it made my pores disappear. I don't wear any other makeup...

That's a tough one. I used to have an oily T-zone...it's cleared up a lot, but it took time. The routine that I followed to combat it is one I still used today with a bit of variation throughout the year as my skin changes a bit with the weather.

So I start out with cleansing. I use cetaphil (or the drugstore equivalent which is the same formula, just less expensive). What I do next depends on whether or not my skin is oily. If it is, I put in a couple of drops of witch hazel on a cotton ball and gently wipe my t-zone. If it's not, I skip ahead and use a light moisturizer, usually something with a minimum of SPF 30 (Eucerin makes a good sensitive skin, non-oily brand) during the daytime and aloe vera gel or coconut oil before I go to bed.

Once a week, I mix in a bit of brown sugar into the cetaphil and gently exfoliate my skin, doing a little extra on the T-zone. If things are especially oily, then instead of the brown sugar scrub, I use Clean and Clear's Blackhead Clearing Scrub. I don't know if it actually works for blackheads since I use it for combating oiliness.

This is what works for me. It may or may not work for you...do a patch test with the clean and clear and the witch hazel to make sure your skin won't react badly. And most importantly, if you're having a hard time figuring out what to do, speak to a dermatologist.

The exfoliant has to be very fine.. a mild or regular scrub won't work on the flaky area's. The Body Shop's vitamin c micro-refiner and MAC's ash is great..

Skin changes with weather too.. if it's cold and dry our skin produces more sebum and hence the oilier zones.

Re: Skin query - how this possible?!

I wonder if anyone’s used this

I have, you might as well give that money to charity. I have it lying around..it's just like a very light concealer.

Re: Skin query - how this possible?!

it all just seems so counter intuitive! It's cold so my skin is dry and oily?!

actually I guess it makes sense since we're looking at two things: moisture and oil/sebum

would it help if I applied a thick moisturiser at night? or would that just make my skin even oilier and worse during the day?

thanks, won't be purchasing that then!

Switch to an oil-free moisturiser..once u use the fine exfoliant u'll notice a difference and also feel that the moisturiser penetrates the skin better. For the oily area's wipe it with tea-tree toner.

Re: Skin query - how this possible?!

I use Imperialis from Lush which isn’t exactly oil free but its fantastic for my dry patches (cheeks). I stopped using it on my T zone and switched to an oil free for my T zone only, but it made the flakiness worse. …

i hate my skin :teary2:

Re: Skin query - how this possible?!

I've battled with acne prone skin for years and finally it's under control. I controlled it with Homeopathic medicine as well as a good skincare regime. I find Hyaluronic acid+EMU oil+Vitamin C to be a very balanced moisturizer. I no longer have an oily T-zone. I purchsed my products from www.platinum skincare.com.

Re: Skin query - how this possible?!

Use a good cleanser for oily skin on ur t-zone esp something with salicylic acid.

For a moisturizer try this line.
Xtend-Life women?s skincare range

go either with day cream or buy body lotion and use it on face too. this is the best moisturizer ever. its very light n doesn’t make ur skin oily or dry. it has no greasy feeling n keeps ur skin moisturized from outside in. Calgary is very dry esp in winter but ever since i’m using it my skin stays in good shape, no dryness, no flakiness.

i havn’t tried their masks but the cleansing mask looks promising too. u can talk to their online rep n discuss which product will be best suited for ur needs.

One more thing how old r u? if u r over 21 then its Ok to use as it has highly active anti-aging ingredients in it.

Re: Skin query - how this possible?!

^ am 22

I'm assuming that line isn't available in the UK. Not too keen on ordering from abroad because of import taxes etc

Just wish there was one product which could tackle dryness, oiliness, redness and everything else...!!

Re: Skin query - how this possible?!

i too bought from online n didn't pa yany taxes. depends on amount of ur order i guess or ask them to send u as gift.
u didn't mention redness b4. anyways i doubt if one product can tackle everything
