skin irritation after swimming

I start to itch all over after water aerobics class and I havent found out how to get rid of it other than using shampoos and soaps that remove chlorine(sigh more chemicals). Is there any other way of getting rid of it? Naturally? I take a long shower and usually use a bath and body shower gel.

Re: skin irritation after swimming

ditch ur class

Re: skin irritation after swimming

Aloe vera gel? I know it works for sun burns ..... don't know about chlorine though.

Re: skin irritation after swimming

water itself can also be a help . you just take a shower for 5 mins once you are done . the irritation could be due to several other reasons .

Re: skin irritation after swimming

is it the first time that happened to u ?.. if so then i guess something wrong with the pool water.. and if it aint new to u.....i suggest u consult dermatologist, before it gets any worse....

Re: skin irritation after swimming

tell ur teacher to lower the chlorine level in the pool...if u get this in every pool u might be allergic to chlorine.

Re: skin irritation after swimming

vegetable oil mixexd with 1% essential oil of lavender...
or try tamanu oil

Re: skin irritation after swimming

Re: skin irritation after swimming

water aerobics (heheheh)

Re: skin irritation after swimming

try going to the vitamin shoppe and picking up a castile body soap. castile soaps have no chemical additives in them and their base ingredients are usually coconut, olive or palm oils. either that or moisturize heavily after u shower after the swim. u need to shower for a long time after swimming to get all the chlorine out.

Re: skin irritation after swimming

arent water aerobics for older women, though? Just asking

Re: skin irritation after swimming

I dont know, but compared to the exercises done on the land, water aerobic exercises are more effective and lead to a loss of about 450 to 700 calories per hour. I do this after cardio and strength training :mudhosh:

Re: skin irritation after swimming

PB if this is not due to sunburn, then Aloe won't help much. Shower before and after aerobics shud help. Do you have a dry skin? Eucerin Body lotion is very good, esp. the one for itch, can be easily found in the pharmacies. It helped me a great deal, since I luv water and it does dry out the skin. Sarna sensitive (anti-itch) lotion is good for particular spots, otherwise Eucerin lotion is fine for all over the body. Try these, both are mild lotions, hope these help.

Re: skin irritation after swimming

wear a diving suit before you enter the pool.

Re: skin irritation after swimming

Coat the parts of your body that itch excessively with a very thin layer of petroleum jelly or Aquaphor before you swim.

After you come out of the pool, stand in a lukewarm shower for atleast 5 mins and rinse and rinse and rinse.

Failing that go see a dermatologist.
