Skin Damage

Recently I’ve been working alot outdoors and here in Australia, the sun is merciless. My skin is quite damaged from all the tanning and I am now focusing alot on sunscreen and covering up etc. I was just wondering if anyone knows about ways to reverse, or rather, heal from the damage thats already been caused. Any input would be appreciated.

Hope you’re all well.

Re: Skin Damage

ur a guy right ? .. lol ur so cutee :d.. u dont wear sun screen or anything?

Re: Skin Damage

Its an all out effort and I am kind of in the same boat right now

Re: Skin Damage

what do you do?

wear a hat...and sunblock.

Re: Skin Damage

Yeah I am a guy :) I'm using sunblock, hat and covering up now but just about the damage thats already been done. I've gone atleast 3 or 4 shades darker. The colour isn't the issue, just tanning is your skin cells in trauma and I want to reverse the affects. I'm a civil engineer. Thats why all the outdoors work.

Re: Skin Damage

go to a doctor lol.

I never tan cuz I'm awesome :DDD
jk

High factor sunblock. And just make sure your covered up during the hottest times of the day. Don't think you can reverse damage but you can defo prevent further damage.
I'd also say make sure you moisturise your skin-good general care.

Re: Skin Damage

use likas papaya soap :flower2:

Re: Skin Damage

OK, so the color aside, what signs of sun damange are you trying to reverse? Wrinkles? Brown spots?

How long has it been since you started using a wide brim hat and sunscreen diligently?

Re: Skin Damage

It will go away in a while...the color.

What you can do is basically start a good skin care regimen. Get a good cleanser, exfoliate, tone and moisturize. Keep the sunscreen going.

Re: Skin Damage

My skin's gotten more oily and an increased amount of pimples. It's not a catastrophic outbreak but still more. I'm pretty sure there are wrinkles that weren't there before but thay may just be my paranoia :(

I will try the papaya soap, thank you :)

To be honest, the diligence with the wide brim and sunscreen needs to be there but I plan on implementing this from tomorrow morning. It's starting to get cold too so I can wear long sleeves again!

Thanks Reha! I am going to get started on a good skin care routine. Need to draw more attention to this. How often should one cleanse, moisturise exfoliate and tone? I could probably ask my mum, sister and friends this but its good to get a well rounded opinion =]

I wish I was in Australia....

....mate.

Re: Skin Damage

Scrape your skin and then start taking care of the new skin. Btw, isn't desi skin tone supposed to be better protected against the sun unlike gorays?

Re: Skin Damage

^ True. We produce more eumelanin or something, which protects the skin from UV rays.

Or I might be completely wrong.

Re: Skin Damage

You'll need products containing AHA's (Glycolic and/or salicylic acid). For wrinkles you'll need Retin A.

BUT since you haven't started being diligent about using a wide brim hat and sunscreen yet, there's no point in using these products b/c then your skin will be damaged even more (ie. these products make your skin sensitive to the sun).

Use a gentle cleansar like Cetaphil to cleanse. Find a over-the-counter acne medication with Salicylic Acid to use at nighttime. You can also use a scrub 1-2x/week. But please start being diligent about the hat and sunscreen. Once you've implemented that into your routine on a daily basis.....then you can move onto serious "sun damage reverse" mode. :)

Re: Skin Damage

  • I cleanse twice a day because I wear makeup. Most people cleanse morning and night.

  • You follow cleansing with toning...again...if you cleanse twice a day then tone twice a day too. Some people skip toning in the morning but definitely tone at night.

  • Moisturizing well is important. Oil free moisturizer if you feel you're too oily right now. You can do a day and night moisturizer as well. Your night one will be stronger to help counter damage your skin goes through during the day.

  • Follow with sunscreen. You obviously don't need it at night but during the day (even if its cloudy) you do.

  • In this regimen...you can incorporate exfoliation either once a week or twice a week. I would start with once a week and see how you do. Some exfoliate almost everyday because the look of fresh skin is tempting. But you just end up being too rough on your skin that way.

  • You can try going for a facial if you want. Its just a really nice deep cleansing. I don't know about others but once a month or 6 weeks I do one and since I started its made a HUGE difference in my skin.

  • Stop touching your face...when you get acne of any kind your immediate reaction is to touch it and it does not help. It makes it worse because the bacteria spreads . Plus your hands touch a million things all day long...and then you touch your face.

Re: Skin Damage

No. While brown and black skin does produce more melanin, that doesn't mean that we're immune to the effects of the sun (ie. cancer, wrinkles, brown spots etc.). More melanin = lower risk.....but not immunity.

Re: Skin Damage

LOL
I swear if you tried to use that logic in Aus you would get skin cancer...
