Sitting on a sphere.

At my work a few people have this Exercise Ball as a chair. They sit on it the whole day! Being new at work I don’t wanna chat up and ask what are the health benefits of it. So, do you guys know if you get anything out of sitting on a ball the whole day? Almost all these guys are in good shape, but it could be that they spend an hour or two in the gym and nothing to do with this ball. Right?

Re: Sitting on a sphere.

sitting on that ball works out abdominal muscles....its called "active" sitting versus just sitting in a chair where your body is static and no pressure is applied to the abdominals. the ball offers a resistance....

Re: Sitting on a sphere.

It strengthens and tones muscles, it is very benficial for back exercises. Lean over it or rest ure backbone over it and stay in that position for a few seconds. It helps increase one's flexability.

Re: Sitting on a sphere.

It works your 'core' - the trend fitness word nowadays. And its all about 'balance' - go to any gym and all theyre talking about is balance and your core and how you work out twice as much when you have to balance on the ball or bosu. It's also excellent for back and posture.

Re: Sitting on a sphere.

Silly asses! They can't put their feet up or nap after lunch!

Re: Sitting on a sphere.

when you're pregnant, its just the BEST!!! lol!! tell THAT to these macho men and see them run!!

Re: Sitting on a sphere.

^ is it? how come?

Re: Sitting on a sphere.

it seems that it helps lower back pains and this is a major bother when you're pregnant. It is just very releiving. Not only during pregnancy but in labor too. In US, most "doulas" (birthing coaches that you can hire) have these and encourage using them both late in pregnancy and during labor.

Re: Sitting on a sphere.

That sounds dangerous. What if you feel side ways and hit your head on the floor so hard that it cracked open like a coconut.

This is a another fitness industry fad. Better stick to tried and true free-weights.

Re: Sitting on a sphere.

^ I dont sit on the bouncy ball LI  Im just telling you why its all so popular. I love bosu though - gives you an amazing workout., better than step http://www.bosu.com/

In the classes you normally do free weights while on the ball/bosu…

start with a smaller size ball …where the distance between your torso and the floor is less so it is easier to balance. no you wont fall…

Re: Sitting on a sphere.

^^

No thank you. Bounce on the bouncy balls all to your heart's content. I am happy with free weights.
