Hi girls! My sister in law is getting married in April next year (a year after my own wedding). We will be arriving in Pak about 4-5 weeks before the wedding (which will give me ample time to get something designer made I believe fingers crossed). Shopping will be done in Islamabad. However, I am unsure as to what styles I should be considering? Pakistani fashion seems to be all over the place atm (short kameez, long gowns, in between, etc) so I don’t know where to look for inspiration. I don’t want to wear my own wedding outfits, even though they were stunning, because I want to look different in the pics etc. For her mehndi I was maybe thinking a lehnga or a sharara? Any suggestions (colours, style) for baraat and walima? Pics would be HIGHLY appreciated! Thank you ![]()
For my BIL's wedding i made 4 joras (i wanted a couple extra cos we had Eid and wedding's to attend when we came back) & i brought one heavy sari from my own wedding...so 5 outfits overall. All my wedding clothes shopping was done in Rawalpindi. I can send u pics on private message if u want. I wore the sari on the barat.
On the mehndi i had two options - my MIL made me one that was ash white with navy blue velvet borders...light kaam on the neckline and small kaam all over. It was in the flowy frock style...pretty simple. We got it made from one of the shops on Murree Road in Rawalpindi...it was next to Mohsin & Son's...i believe it was called Taj Mahal. I would not reccomend this place unless ur really specific about the style and design of ur dress. We had wanted something completely different than what the guy made...the kaam was far too little and the dress overall was really simple and bland for a mehndi. However, we didn't have time for alterations and arguing so we just went with it...in the end, it did look nice. We paid 24k for the dress. The second dress my mom made me from the same area...store was Khan Variety. It was red & gold... stunning..cost us 32k. I ended up wearing the one my MIL got me cos well...u know. For walima, i wore a sky blue maxi-gown with light kaam on the front and back...got it from Mohsin & Sons...it was GORGEOUS...cost us 24k. I got another one from here that was tea pink and fuschia...it was a gown with sharara... i never had a chance to wear it however. That one cost us 28k.
Overall - i think anything goes in terms of fashion. I wanted to be different and wear a sari on the barat cos no one else was...and i just find it elegant. Plus my sari wasn't from Pakistan, it was Indian so the kaam/sari was amazing lol. Had i gone during better weather i would have thoroughly enjoyed shopping and taken my time to really be nitpicky.
Re: Sister in Law's wedding
mzprincess88, have you guys selected a make up artist in Pindi/Islamabad? My Walima is in a couple of months and I am having a difficult time selecting between Jugno or Sobias.
^ Have u checked out Moshaz? I think they're way better than Jugnu's or Sobia's... if those are ur only options go for Sobia's.
Re: Sister in Law's wedding
Thank you S Punk that helps a lot! May I ask, did you wear your wedding jewellery on any of the days ? I would love to wear my Walima set on one of the events but don't want to look too overdone.
muslimchic I'm not sure who my SIL has organised for makeup but I am pretty sure it's someone from Peshawar.
Re: Sister in Law's wedding
Also...does anyone know if the same designer shopping that can be done in Islamabad can be done in Peshawar? I haven't been to Peshawar before but would prefer it to avoid a much longer drive to Islamabad. I don't want ready made outfits.
