Stereotypes always existed in society.
As beard is now sign of suspicion in some societies, so was topi in past days. Idioms like topi karana, topi baaz all refers to such generalization.
Share some other stereotypes based on appearance that exist in different cultures.

oh yes and that frame on head (I forget proper name) is symbol of Haji. I think in Saudi Arabi, on-Saudis are not allowed to wear that.

person carrying tasbeeh is also considered religious and god-fearing. What did Benazir want to convey by carrying tasbeeh all the time (during her public appearance)?
