I dont know what to do and i am hoping someone will be able to help. My poor hubby is suffering from sinuses. He has been prescribed a nasel spray but it only gives him relief for a short while.
Nowadays, he cant sleep at all. As soon he falls asleep, he has trouble breathing which keeps him awake till 3am…i feel guilty and wake up but he doesnt want me to make a deal of it and asks me to go back to sleep.
We also have a fan which we keep on @ night and leave the door open for air but i dont think it helps.
didn't u consult any ENT for that? well vicks/menthol tabs ki steam lo..that wud help a lot..nammuk pani pio...and my naana jaan(Allah unko jannut naseeb kray amen) used to say...neem garrum pani mai nammuk daal kur mix kr lo..kuch cotton soak kr lo and then make each of the cotton ball like a small butti which u could enter in ur nose..just wipe the nose from front..but u have to put it somewhat inside the nose...just wipe and throw ..do like this with 10-12 buttis..this wud help u alot with ur sinus...
Re: Sinus & Blocked Nose - Unable to breathe @ night!
I did not hear a mention of humidifier in the BR . Do you have one there ? Buy the one in which you can put some Vic's Vaporub too. That will surely help him. Any kind of nasal congestion prescription , spray, tablets, ointments take a few days to start working properly.
But try humidifier for immediate relief. In the morning do not forget to clean your windows otherwise mold will start to grow around the windows.
We have consulted ENT uetian but i dont think anything came out of it! We have tried steam with vicks - again temporary but will try again 2nite inshallah. Are you saying drink the namak pani? Isnt that only good for gargling when you have a sore throat? When you say enter thr buttis in your nose, how far and what happens?
Whats BR? And we havent got one? I live in Uk, where would i find one? Sounds good if you can out Vicks in it! He has been using the nasel spray for a long time but still no use! DO you leave the humidifier all night! How do you use it?
Thanks Ask - will check it out!
Thank you guys for your suggestions. I hope inshallah by taking these on board, it will help!
Re: Sinus & Blocked Nose - Unable to breathe @ night!
American's and their abreviations, BR is bed room. Yes you leave the humidifier on all night long. In US humidifiers are sold at pharmacies/drug stores , I guess they call them chemists in UK.
Re: Sinus & Blocked Nose - Unable to breathe @ night!
omg, neti-pot is awesome! its kinda gross to go thru it but it rinses out you whole sinus cavity on both sides with saline water and a whole new world opens up! It is a really worthwile thing to try.

steam with vicks is the best thing....though temporary but wud make him sleep better at night...yes drink the nammuk pani ..this helps with the colds...also good for gargling...buttis in nose that far where u feel comfortable..wud make him sneeze and helps clear the mucus from inside..but make sure the water should be warm...
Re: Sinus & Blocked Nose - Unable to breathe @ night!
Maybe its not the sinus.
Allergies like Asthma usually get worse at night and early mornings.
Sinus problems happen during the day in summer when there are more chances of hayfever/pollen etc.
If vicks and steam isnt helping then you should get him tested for Asthma or maybe think of what you have changed in your bedroom like sheets/pillows etc which might be causing him the agony

My husband also suffers from the same thing, we have a fan and humidifier which provides relief to some extent but doesn't eradicate the problem completely. He's been to see an ENT specialist who was as much use as a chocolate teapot.....did some tests and a scan and just prescribed him an assortment of nasal sprays which didn't do much.
He has started to notice that eating certain foods can aggrevate the situation, but the best thing he's tried to date is surprisingly, those nasal nose strips. He actually manages to get a full nights undisturbed sleep when he uses those so perhaps you might want to try them?

Thanks Mama...we had a look into netipot and it looks worth a try! You also get a squeezy bottle one, we may go for that one! Did it help you and i guess its only temprary no?
Does he have any allergies? Get him checked for allergies first. Also, does his side of family have any sinus problems?
No alergies Alhumdullilah - and yes, it does run in his family so i guess it makes it hereditary!

Thats exactly like my husband BC - which strips is your hubby using and how often?
Re: Sinus & Blocked Nose - Unable to breathe @ night!
Sounds like your hubby and mine suffer from the exact same condition SE, his is also a heriditary thing and isn't allergy related, although stuff like pollen, dust etc can make it worse than it already is.
He uses Breathe Easy strips, they come in boxes of 30 and Boots sometimes do 3 for 2 deals on them which is when I stock up (how very pakified of me kana:p) but make sure you get the right size since they come in various sizes.
They also come in two 'colours' - skin and clear although I'm not sure why it'd make any difference since you're not likey to wear them in public anyway :D
Technically he uses them every night but in reality it's when he remembers or when the sinuses get so bad that he can't sleep. Since they're chemical free, I don't think you can 'overuse' them so it's okay to use them every night.

What pukhto kay khabaray kay ta? Hehe! Oh right, i might pop in to boots after work! What size do you get and how am i gonna determine which size to get? I just want him to get a good nights sleep, thats all. Thank you Brit chick!
Re: Sinus & Blocked Nose - Unable to breathe @ night!
Well you get the size that's right for the nose I guess, they come in small , medium and large. Large seem to fit most adult noses so seems liek a safe bet.
Re: Sinus & Blocked Nose - Unable to breathe @ night!
hello again SE....Yes the neti-pot is temporary. It completely washes out the whole sinus cavity though so it can be a welcome releif to those of us who have blocked sinuses! And it really isnt hard to do, a little gross at first but once you feel the results, its a very lovely thing!
I also used those nasal strips for a while! They too are wonderful! My sinuses swelled every time I was pregnant and I snored like a warthog every night. I'd wake up with a sore throat, my hubby would tell me that I "sucked the paint off the walls" and I never felt rested. But those strips pull your nose open enough to let the air thru even if they're a bit swollen, I'd not snore nearly as violently and we BOTH got some rest lol! The ones that I got were called "Breathe Right" and they didnt come in different sizes. It seems that its all in the placement of the strip, make sure that it pulls your nose just under where the cartilage stops and the soft skin begins and voila! a good night sleep!
Re: Sinus & Blocked Nose - Unable to breathe @ night!
Thanks again Mama for your wonderful advice. I got some strips for him and he used it last night and got some relief AH. Will def ask him to get the netipot!
