yep i definitely need smaller diameter's plates for kids.
Re: sink full of bartans
I very much agree .. I think its all about habit … the minute i go to the kitchen for breakfast or dinner, first thing i do is clear the counter and the sink … and then start with preparing the food …
Though i must say, i hate doing the spoons and forks .. so they always linger around in the sink until i realize there are no more clean ones left , then I do them all in a bulk ![]()
Re: sink full of bartans
stoppit and CB
The new bowl we got is quite big and deep but I don't think it helps getting the washing done quicker....what is the best way of washing dishes? Like, shall I fill the bowl with water and soap and put all the dirty dishes in that and then after a while start rinsing them with clean water?
Actually thats not a bad idea. I think the goras just take them out of the soapy water and dry them off, which is not very hygienic, but if you take them out and rinse with water, then they should be fine. I would put the glasses and spoons first. Then make new soapy water for the more oily plates and pots. This method is much faster than our traditional way.

yeah...and if you clean the oily and greasy plates with a kitchen towel before putting it into water it'd be easier to wash them...
I'll experiment with both methods.

The other thing you can do is what my mom did .. each member of the family had their own glass or cup... and we wouldnt just put it in the sink after one drink ... we would use the same glass for drinking water at least 3-4 times before my mom would give it a wash...
that would reduce half the workload !
Re: sink full of bartans
brilliant...
Re: sink full of bartans
ohh and that reminds me to reduce the spoons in the sink ... I normally use the same spoon almost all day for all the tea and coffee mixing!
and I remember one of my aunties. she taught me another trick .. everytime she would use a spoon to work with something dry like flour or sugar or anything dry .. she wouldnt end up washing the spoon every single time .. she just rubbed it with a dry cloth and back into the spoon holder ... I thought that was fantastic ... I do that too when i remember to ... and I am sure it saves up on the workload too ..
Re: sink full of bartans

Hareem the greese is already gone if you place the plates in the sink while you are doing the glasses and the cups ...

Re: sink full of bartans
As far as my impression is you have two boys and a healthy husband , why can't they wash their own dishes and why can't they help out ?
Re: sink full of bartans
how about telling your boys to just wash the plates, cups, glasses they use out of their regular meal times. That way you would only have to deal with the lunch and dinner bartan.
Re: sink full of bartans
Mirch and Enigmatic,
I have a healthy husband but he's away at work for 12 hours and when he's back I don't expect him to start washing the dishes but he does his bit whenever he can, I have 3 boys ages 7, 5, 3, I think they're bit too young to handle the china and glass dishes besides I don't think it's safe to leave them unattended with the hot water taps, they're short and can't reach the tap without a footstool anyway.
Re: sink full of bartans
The best thing is...washing the dishes while you are cooking...thts wht I do...tht way wen I leave the kitchen for lunch or dinner..its alll nice andd clean ...after tht its basicaly just 7-8 plates n glasses n a bowl or two...nothing more...barley takes 15 minutes....
I soap them all first.......then wash them...
Re: sink full of bartans
hareem
the kids are still young, so it will be difficult for you to control the amount of bartan they will use through the day … I was just talking to an aunty who has 8 kids … I asked her how she manages the bartan …
she shared many of the same tips that we have been discussing here .. only additional bits :
Though I am not in the favour of being so kanjoos about bartan with the kids … but i feel on days that you are burdened you can use thse tips quite well ..
Re: sink full of bartans
8 kids? wow ![]()
her eldest must be 16, no?
