I don’t know, G. You can interview people all you want but unless you’re in one, all this ‘wisdom’ is irrelevant. Same goes for parenting.
Re: Single guy toured the country interviewing successful couples
Can you elaborate on the "issues" that will cause the downfall of a relationship. All humans have flaws but which ones specifically need to be worked out before entering into a life partner relationship? With marriage that trust one that was mentioned in the link is where you do have to put all your eggs in one basket when it comes to another flawed human being, I would put my trust in a person that I think is a certain way or hope he is.
If i look at the guy that I was hoping would be the one, he ended up being a total fraud. He seemed honest and I thought I could trust him by what I learned about him but how much can you really know about a person in those beginning stages. Whatever happened to the concept of tread slowly. Does it also apply in a marriage/lifelong committed relationship?
All joking aside, self love refers to being at peace with who you are. You don't need stimulation to get through your life. Relationships provide a great rush when they're new and some people use them to escape the drudgery of the everyday.
You should have your life together as far as emotional maturity, career or education goes. We all need companionship but you need to be a self-sufficient person before you go into a marriage.

Dive face first. That's what I'd do.

Right, but he was interviewing people who were in successful relationships. The guy himself is not an expert but his relaying of the experiences of those happily married is certainly worthwhile.
