I started dance classes when I was 3 yrs old and continued till age 20. Tried it on for a career for a bit. My Mom was a very good dancer, my Aunt sang like an angel. Once I gave up serious dancing and went to college, I was on gymnastics team and in the dance club.
My 5 yr old son is now in Tap dancing class and just loves it. So I do think its hereditary.
And just as a btw, I've seen desis dance and they are REALLY good at it as a general comment! The desi music just gets you going I think.

i love to dance…i love to sing…and im good at it
I dance in all girls events til i cant dance no more! i can dance to arab,paki,irani,trance(raver type dancing)…you name it i can shake it 
i sing in the privacy of my own home…never in front of people…well i did in my younger days…not anymore.

That’s hard to say, sme people do put in lots of hours in practicing, but they’re usually performers. i really never thouht abt it being natural or learned..I HATE watching performances, I think they’re boring, i’m more likely to join in. It’s easier to join in when EVERYONE is dancing..
I don’t sing. I usually dance at (all-girls) parties.
I love bhangra music and a few bollywood songs, like kajra re..a few months ago I did the bhangra dance, u know the legs locked together, hopping in a circle and arms up in the air. It was fuN

Sing: No
Natural talent is always good, but both can be learnt (specially dance).
I don’t sing at all. Sometimes only while I am driving with the music thats on.

*Do you think it is a natural or learned talent? * I think the desire to do it is natural, and I think many people are naturally better at it than others. However, I do believe you can learn and improve at both singing and dancing.
Do you sing at weddings, alone or in shower? I rarely sing at weddings, sometimes alone, often in the shower, and always in the car (as long as I'm with people I'm comfortable with -- I have a horrible voice).
What kind of music gets you going? Songs with good precussion definitely get me moving and shaking.

Alone in the basement, when everyone is in their room, and a particular line plays, and it’s just wonderful to sing it aloud. Shower…yea sometimes. Humming more like.
What kind of music gets you going? Rock, punk, soft stuff, anything with a good beat to it, and if the lyrics match as well.

Singing: its a mix of both, if you dont have the range, no matter how much you learn u cat do it, if you dont have a nice voice, no matter what u do, you wont have it. but, you have to train to be able to use your natural assets
Dancing: you have to be naturaly coordinated, have some sense of balance and posture, an ear to move with the music and a good sense of ryhtm, oh yeah and being physically able is necessary too
that is the raw basis, the rest can be polished.

all three, in addition a few shows here and there, but that was a while back.

anything really, depends on my mood, could be latin, reggae, rap, soul, techno, electronica, modern rock, hard rock, heavy metal...basically anything except country and hillbilly crap, allergic to that shyt.

I think desis overestimate themselves, that is abundantly evident when you go to a wedding and see a bunch of dildos in a circle jumping around like a pack of monkeys thinking that they are some hot shyt doing bhangra..
as far as singing goes, forget ppl singing at mehndis and all, check out some of our recording artists and you will see how much ppl overestimate themselves, or underestimate the aesthetic sense of the listeners.

actually yes, I took classes for a handful of dances in the 94-97 timeframe, and tango was one of them. not an expert by any means but just enough to avoid making a complete fool of myself whe attempting to tango.

I learned to do salsa with my wife. Always singing while driving with loud music going on. Mostly rock. Yes some people overdo.

yes im very cheesy i love dancing on bollywood songs. kajra re kajra re i learned odissi last year and took salsa classes in college (which i cannot do with a straight face on) i like modern dance and hip hop too.. i sing on my own or around select people half of which tell me i have a great voice and the other half tell me to just shut up.
as far as dancing i was inclined towards it ever since i was a kid and my role model was michael jackson and his moonwalk. never took professional classes till a few yrs ago. learnt everything by watching dance videos and TV. so i cant make a distinction on how much of it is natural/learned.
personally anything with a good beat to it gets me going. are desis good at dance? well i always admire people that can express themselves through dance....it doesnt always have to be controlled and perfectly choreographed. so anyone dancing like they dont have a care in the world is pretty cool in my opinion.
