Singer of Pakistani Band to sing for Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna
By IndiaFM News Bureau, May 25, 2006 - 04:16 IST

Pakistani rock band Junoon made a grand entry in the Indian market way back in 1998 and paved the way for other Pakistani bands to India. In 2004, the lead singer of Junoon Ali Azmat went solo, singing for Pooja Bhatt’s Paap. Now, Shafqat Amanat Ali, the lead singer of another band called Fuzon will mark his debut in Bollywood soon with Karan Johar’s Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna.

Talking about his first big Bollywood assignment, Shafqat said that he was always a big fan of Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy’s music and had also met Ehsaan a few years back. They recently gave him an offer to sing for KANK which he accepted immediately. However he adds that he is very much with the band and will continue to sing for Fuzon.

Fuzon is mainly known for the classical elements in its musical compositions and Hindi films known for its popular music is distinct from it in a way. Shafqat, however, says that he didn’t want to restrict himself and is therefore trying his hand in films. Besides, he feels it is always challenging to sing for another composer. He adds that singing for films involves a different process because the songs are based on the situations in film and involves the director’s perspective as well.

The song he is going to sing for KANK is called ‘Mitwa’; however he didn’t reveal much about the song. Besides this, his band Fuzon, is also working on their next album which will come out this year.

I hope he will do well. He is a good singer with a very classical type voice. I hope he gets a prominent song instead of bharti ones.

Re: Singer of Pakistani Band to sing for Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna

he's singing one song - Mitwa

Re: Singer of Pakistani Band to sing for Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna

Bollywood has so many better singers than pakistani singers. They are much more talented when it comes to music. As if they really needed a Pakistani singer:(

Re: Singer of Pakistani Band to sing for Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna

^^ Ofcourse that is why Indian musicians complain of a total stagnancy in the Indian music scene [Want me to quote?], and people like A R Rehman say that they actually listen to Pakistani music. Pakistani singers and Pakistani music have always been the envy of Bollywood. NFAK’s style is aped by that Reshamiyya dude, Ali Zafar’s TWO songs have been ripped off till date [in just a span of a year!!!], while Atif Aslam and Adnan Sami have already made it big on their own. Faakhir is going places too. Not to mention Abida, NFAK and Ghulam Ali which already were household names before the Pakistanis took over BOllywood by storm. All Bollywood has is its Udits, Nigams and Alkas which have been singing the same ol’ songs for decades now. They’re just desperate to get Pakistanis to India, and just recently Ahmed Jahanzeb signed a 5 album deal with some Bombay based recording company which is unprecedented even for an Indian Artist. Shows how desperate yer recording comapnies are :hehe:

Re: Singer of Pakistani Band to sing for Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna

Singing and dancing is more or less part of their religion or culture and we usually do it for fun. On on side parents force you to learn music and on the other side you are called a "Miraasi" if you start learning music or dance ;) but still, lot of our singers are highly popular in India and that says something about our "TALENT".

Re: Singer of Pakistani Band to sing for Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna

Neera, I wasn’t expecting this inferiority complex from you. Unless of course, it was sarcasm that flew over my head.

Anyway,
He’s has good vocals with a classical touch. I don’t think he was running after to get a song in bollywood, but what’s the harm? He’ll do something different, no reason to not take the opportunity.

sTaLkEr,
I wouldn’t say India is desperate for talent. Really, Pakistanis just bring forth another color to the music, it’s different and thats what attracts people. But amidst all that, let’s not forget the likes of Lata ji and Asha Bhosle. Good artists should always be recognized and respected, whatever the country they are from.

Re: Singer of Pakistani Band to sing for Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna

Sweetheart, I believe it’s better to keep your mouth shut and be thought a fool than to open it and remove all doubt. India is the land of playback singers, if you want real music, cross the border and I don’t mean to Bangladesh.

Re: Singer of Pakistani Band to sing for Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna

Asha and Lata are old news. The fact is t hey're outta talent now thats why people like Mahesh bhatt come to Pakistan and seek out Pakistani artists. Do not think this is my pesronal bias -- the Indo musicians have been saying this themselves. People like Amir Jamal turned some Indo porn films into hits with songs like Kaho Na Kaho, which ran on Indus Music for almost a year and wasn't noticed much before picked up by the Indoz.

Re: Singer of Pakistani Band to sing for Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna

Biggest song in India in 2005: Aadat.
Biggest band in Indian in 2006: Strings.

Nuff said.

Re: Singer of Pakistani Band to sing for Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna

Shafqat Amanat Ali's awesome voice has been let down by a pathetic composition. The song is plain dull, the best on the album though :)

Re: Singer of Pakistani Band to sing for Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna

another pakistani talent being wasted in sme mediocre third rated rubbish Bollywood crap....

Re: Singer of Pakistani Band to sing for Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna
