Re: Sindh Through Centuries!
I read somewhere that GM Syed who played major role in this issue later regretted this a lot, after his views about separation of Karachi from Sindh were totally ignored by Mr Jinnah and other Muslim League leaders.

Re: Sindh Through Centuries!
what about his views of separation of Karachi from Sindhi?

Sindhi leadership didn't want that from the first day. They sent a delegation to Mr Jinah, but he didn't hear them as he didn't hear Bengalis on issue of language. so the difference and sense of marginalized. Time proved that their concerns were right, as just after 3 years in 1951, there came a demand for making Karachi a separate province and the rest is history.
Lives of Sindhi Muslims didn't change after partition. Sindhi waderas were in power in rural areas and they still are. Before partition, Hindus were dominating urban centres and their place was later taken by migrants under the patronage of government. No representation of Sindh in first federal cabinet of Pakistan raise many questions and the answer of such questions is quota system, which is being used as political exploitation of masses today.

Hmmm...demand of karachi province in 51? Didnt know about that. Was that a demand for an actual province or Karachi as federal capital would have become separate, same like Islamabad.

Will provide you material on this matter. I do not remember what were the dynamics, but its not a new demand.
Re: Sindh Through Centuries!
May be apart from Makran and border areas of Sindh, remaining Balochistan was part of Iran
Well in caliphate time, wouldn't iran be ruled by the caliphate as well? After all, much after the caliphate, muhammad bin qasim was a governor of iran before he became famous for conquering sindh.

Thtas what I was saying as the map didn't show Iran and Makran separately. It shows it as 'Caliphate'. Expedition to Iran started just after the death of Prophet and it was under Muslim rule by the time of third Khalifa e Rashid Hazrat Usman (RA).
Re: Sindh Through Centuries!
What's the actual Sindhi percentage in Karachi?
Has the influx of Mojahirs affected the lives of Sindhis ?In what way?

Sindhis are hardly 10% in Karachi. Migrants do change lifestyles, but I would rather call internal factors like Waderashahi reason for sufferings of Sindhi than others.
Re: Sindh Through Centuries!
Karachi did loose Sindhis like the advanis. I doubt that Muslim sindhis really made a difference in pre-partition sindh

Muslim Sindhis made only one difference, known as Pakistan. They voted for Pakistan, though, Sindhi Hindus were neither in favor of Pakistan nor separation from Bombay Residency. With Sindh annexed to Bombay, Sindhi Hindus were not minority on religious basis. Sindhi Muslims, however, took the issue of separation from Bombay seriously and then they voted Muslim League in 1946 election. Sindhi Hindus voted for Congress and therefore Congress won all the seats reserved for minorities in Sindh.

Re: Sindh Through Centuries!
It was ones PPP’s stronghold and PPP has been winning from Lyari for many decades.
Re: Sindh Through Centuries!
I asked the reason for PPP’s down fall in Lyari…

Re: Sindh Through Centuries!
I didn’t say downfall as they still managed to get seats from Lyari. Its about general popularity, as Lyari’s law and order situation became worst under PPP’s government.

Why did it become worse?

I am talking about the economic or scientific / academic impact on sindh. In that sense, muslim sindhis were far behind hindus just like how I have seen some indian muslims blame the mouhajirs (upper or middle class intellectuals) that left for Pakistan and left the dumb ones, to be politically incorrect, behind in india.
Sindh could have been much different if there was less rigidness in the sindhi identity like punjabis and they had made a collation (as AP uncle says) to get themselves educated. But I guess that it might not be possible since that would mean the end of wadera in sindh. Right now, it seems that someone would have to come save interior sindh as the sindhi middle class has no initiative to take on the waderas like punjabis did with the industrialization of north and central punjab.

all four current provinces (including Punjab) has that situation when you talk about economic, scientific, academic contributions. Hindus were ahead every where and that was the fear which finally lead to demand for separate country of Muslims.
Muslims in united India detested modern education (remember people like Sir Syed Ahmed Khan being termed as British agent). The story of low to no representation Sindhi Muslim middle class dates back to 16th / 17th century Afghan invasions (by Arghun and Tarkhan rulers).
