I don't know about this. As far I remember it has started since last year in Sindh. However Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto was the first politician who took pride wearing shalwar and qamis, the traditional dress in Pakistan. Later on every one followed.
Isn't the 'traditional dress' of Punjabis and Sindhis the 'dhoti/lungi/chaadar around the waste'???
As far as i know...the shalwar qameez is the actually traditional dress of Pashtoons..
I think shalwar qamees is universal in Pakistan, in every province, people wears it since centuries in villages and small towns but became popular mode of dress in urban areas during ZAB tenure.
I don't remember it being celebrated with all this zeal and zest when I was living in Pakistan. It is so sad that instead of bringing communities together and bridging the gap, we creating differences.
This was a great event and should be done annually. It's not just for Sindhis but for everyone living in Sindh, be it Sindhi or Muhajir or Hindu or Muslim.

I don't think celebrating Sind day, or any other day will take away from communities coming together as Pakistanis, instead it will strengthen their bond with the nation. Pakistan is a prime example of forced nationalism, where E. Pakistanis were not considered to be sufficiently patriotic or Muslim...we can all see how that turned out.
Although I am absolutely against Zardari/Gilani government, I do think that they are doing the right thing by allowing the expression of provincial identities.

Would have been right if they weren't playing the 'sindh card' alongwith it.......with the 'sindh card' they sound suspicious....
anyways atleast people got to celebrate something.
there was no need of this... i wish they could celebrate a "feed the hungry day" or "provide shelter day" or something similar... its nothing but stupidity and selfishness to celebrate something like this when there are hundreds of thousands of people still have no proper arrangement of food and many of them even have no proper "tent" to live in

I don't see playing any cards detracts from a celebration of a distinct cultural community within Pakistan. Zardari and Co. employs the Sind card as much as NS does in his home province. No one (except for mullahs) questioned Basant or any of the Lok Virsa festivals.
