Sindh Assembly demands end to CII

Kudos to Sind Assembly.

Sindh Assembly demands end to CII - DAWN.COM

KARACHI: The Sindh Assembly Monday demanded the disbandment of the Council of Islamic Ideology while passing a resolution to stop implementation on the CII’s earlier decisions, DawnNews reported.

The resolution was moved by Pakistan Muslim League-Functional’s (PML-F) leader Mehtab Akhtar Rashidi.

The Assembly expressed serious reservations over the recent decisions taken by the CII with regards to women.

It moreover demanded of the federal government that any implementation of the CII’s recommendations on underage marriages and DNA tests should be stopped

The CII has come under fire with its controversial statements and rulings.

Earlier this month, the CII had ruled that laws related to minimum age of marriage were un-Islamic and that children of any age could get married if they attain puberty.

CII chairman Maulana Mohammad Khan Sheerani had said that the age of puberty varied from individuals to individuals and that it was the responsibility of guardians to have ruksati as soon as the child attains the age of puberty.

It had also said that the current law requiring a man to seek written permission from his wife before contracting a second marriage should be amended.

“The government should amend the law to make the issue of more than one marriage easy and in accordance with Sharia," Sheerani had said.

Re: Sindh Assembly demands end to CII

Currently there is no need for CII. The CII seems to be dropping the ijtihad and falling back to old interpretations/boundaries.

Re: Sindh Assembly demands end to CII

Excellent.

If the overall idea of total scrapping doesn't go far then some form of overhaul must take place. These Mullahs cannot just randomly start talking issues they fancy and call for significant amendments in existing laws.

Re: Sindh Assembly demands end to CII

Quite funny. Child marriages are endemic in Sindh, owing to their feudal culture and traditions. Lets see the PPP govt pass a resolution against their own feudals, making it a crime to marry underage girls, and then we can talk CII. Fix the law in the province that you are actually ruling.

Child Marriage in Pakistan - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The practice of child, early and forced marriage is widespread and occurs in all regions of Pakistan, with the highest prevalence in the Sindh Province.

Re: Sindh Assembly demands end to CII

^^^ 2 wrongs do not make it right & neither does that justifies CCI rulings so mullahs can marry under age girls.

Re: Sindh Assembly demands end to CII

CII has been there for decades. Sindh govt passed a resolution only when CII made a statement about marrying underage girls. Its hypocrisy, not about justifying CII's decision, just because its happening in Sindh as well.

In Sindh, the ruling party's main vote bank comes from waderas and their minions. They are the ones who are engaged in this act. Why not go after them and root it out?

Re: Sindh Assembly demands end to CII

^^^ It happens in all parts of country & CII gave it religious cover & wants to make it LEGAL & that is the difference.

Re: Sindh Assembly demands end to CII

^ so would then Sindh govt go after the ones who are not following current law? :)

More entertaining is reaction from Fazlur JUI. His statements on this issue show where exactly these resolutions have hurt him.
Must be very painful for him to bear such sacrilegious, blasphemous acts of Sindh assembly against the CII, the Pious.
