Salam everyone
I’m going through a very confusing phase right now. I really like human resources management and I would like to enhance the concept in Pakistan as well. But I want to know, is there any future at all for HR in Pakistan or will I be beating around the bush?
All big companies especially multinational have very nicely structured Human Resource departments in Pakistan and hire MBA's and Masters degree holders for same.. and companies are realizing its importance..
Degas that's great news but I really want to focus in on the industrial level and local companies because I know concepts like "employment equity" and "employee satisfaction" don't really exist in those companies - not at a formal level anyway. Any hope there?
Most of local companies are run by saiths and family ownership is in most cases sole employer ..human resource management is still a far cry.. though with globalization and influx of multinationals there have been some movement in this field.. big local companies also have good human resource departments since they have grown with time.. and new departmenents have emerged with expansion.. check Jaffer Brothers or Cresoft and others..

HRM has I think a good Future... As mentioned above all the Big and Good Companies and Organizations have the HR Dept... I think this Field is not yet seturated...
GOOD LUCK
I don't know. Everybody keeps telling me there's no future for HRM in Pakistan. I could for my CA (Chartered Accountant) but I find that too boring and dry, even though there's a lot of money in that.
I'm really confused and it's bothering me a lot these days.
HUmsa
My cousisn who did his degree in amrketing from IBA ended up in HR mgmt for a major multinational in Pakistan. There is sscope with multinationals as well as large pakistani companies because as they grow more sophisticated HR is a more inmportant issue for them.
if that is an area u are interested in go for it.
Thanks Pir Sahab :) But I think I'm going to try kill myself and go for accounting, hrm and finance, all of them.
looks around for poison
Don't go crazy and try to do it all. I'd suggest pick two and do them really well. Finance and HR are really good combinations. Duality will also give you a cushion and distinguish you from mere HR's and mere Finance types.
Given family / feudal ownership structure, you have a lot of opportunity for creativity in HR solutions. It should be entirely possible to build absolutely win-win HRMS in family owned companies because they by nature have built more worker loyalty that most so called "professionally managed" companies. Examples are galore where a family owned company won't layof generations of workers just to turn in a good quarter.
Find a good family owned comapny and build a HR process and system for them as a study project.

Humsa
actually HR and Finance or acct can be a real good combo, human resources being a big part of a company's costs, and whether its bad times where SG&A reductions are teh story of the day or a boom where the right talent can nto be found. payroll and benefits costs, competitive ness with industry, cost of sales or cost of goods sold..margins etc are very critical. I dont know about canada but in US if you are in the benefits area, a sound accountign background is very important.
