Re: Simplest No flop cake recipe

I am new to baking too. The following is the 1[SUP]st[/SUP] recipe I tested and it came out wonderful. I have made it so many times now. For icing, I used double cream instead as that’s what my family likes. Also I used tinned fruits for different flavours for filling. You can try different things you like for filling and icing but use this for the cake itself.

O M G

I can’t bake to save my life.
I can cook you a ten course meal but can’t make a simple cake.

Re: Simplest No flop cake recipe

Box cake mixes like Betty Crocker/Duncan Hines are the best for first time bakers. They are pretty fool proof. Just follow the directions on the box. Be sure have the correct oven temperature and grease your cake pan well. If you’re using frosting (also all available ready made), wait until the cake is fully cooled to frost/decorate.

Re: Simplest No flop cake recipe

Yup. Betty Crocker cake mixes are a life-saver for first timers.

You get a hang of your oven, basic skills of mixing/beating. Then you move on to your own recipe from scratch.

I’ve been doing basic baking (cakes, cupcakes, cookies etc) since I was a teenager… and trust me it’s not that difficult. One thing that you keep in mind while baking is.. “Follow the exact recipe!”. That means perfect measurements. If you can manage a steady hand with that, you’ll be baking in no time.

Re: Simplest No flop cake recipe

Here is the simplest cake recipe.
Marble cake

Butter: 225 grams
Plain Flour: 16Tbsp
Sugar: 12Tbsp
Eggs: 4
Baking Powder: 2 tsp
Coco Powder: 3Tbsp or chocolate: 100 grams
Vanilla essence: 1tsp
Milk: 3-4 Tbsp

Method:

Pre heat oven to 180 degrees.

Melt butter in microwave and then mix it for 2 mins.
Add sugar and mix till pale yellow
Then add eggs one by one.
Sift flour and add baking powder to it and fold it into the mixture you made
(Folding means that you add flour little little and mix it manually by stirring softly clockwise and anti clockwise). You can even mix flour using the beater but try then beating at slower speed.
Add milk to the mixture to give it a better consistency (you can even avoid this step)
Now put the 2/3rd of mixture in the greased cake pan.
Now add coco powder to remaining mixture and then add it to the mixture in pan already. And just irregularly mix it over and around. so that you get feeling that coco and the plain mixture is mixed randomly.

Put the cake in oven and bake it for 35-40 mins.

Check with skewer or tooth pick. if it turns out plain after inserting in cake then cake is done.

Note: If you are using chocolate melt it in the microwave to form a kind of paste. Dont over heat. Other way is to use the double boiler in which you heat the water in a pot and keep a heat resistant bowl (pyrex) over it in a way that water dont touch it but steam should come to it. Pour chocolate in it with 1 tsp of oil. And add to the mixture instead of coco powder.

You can alter it with coffee cake in which you will add 2.5 tbsp of coffee in warm water and mix to cake mixture.
Other alteration can be that add 50 grams of chocolate and 2tbsp of coffee powder in warm water and add to cake.
Plain cake can also be made in same way just omit coco powder

Re: Simplest No flop cake recipe

My recipe for a plain simple sponge, I haven’t had any bad experience with this recipe even once till now, touchwood and thank god! No fat, no baking soda, and no baking powder either!

Maida - 85 gms
Eggs - 3
Powdered Sugar - 85 gms
Vanilla essence - a few drops
6 inch cake tin, nicely greased with oil/butter and dusted generously with maida.

Beat eggs, vanilla essence, and powdered sugar for like 3 minutes moving from slow to high speed. The volume should almost triple now. (Set your oven to preheat now for 10 mins at 180 degrees C.) Now, sprinkle about 2 teaspoons of maida over this mixture and fold it into the batter using ‘cut and fold’ method. Do this till you exhaust your maida. Pour into your greased and dusted 6 inch tin.

Your oven should have been preheated by now…just put the cake tin inside the oven and bake for 35 mins at 180 degrees C. Chk by inserting a tooth pick after 35 mins and need be you might need to bake for another 10 mins. Let cool completely for at least 2 hours in the pan before you remove it.

You can alternate vanilla essence with any fruit essence too. You can also soak this sponge in fruit juice/sugar syrup/syrup from tinned fruits. Then add some double cream frosting and top with loads of fresh fruit and cherries!
