Simpler days

I’m hankering for those simpler days when the mid-morning sunlight formed shifting dappled patterns on the forums and there was a giggle to be had at every turn of the subject matter.

A time when the disparate groups of cliques all came together and pitched in to solve the pressing problems of the day, problems like Roman’s flea/fly infestation and Madhanee’s askew moustache and who can forget Sadi Sobi’s bag a rich man and retire campaign.

In those days when general was full of itself, in a good way, and was disturbed only by the juvenile giggles from next-door as another café thread clocked 100 000 in a game of eye spy.

World affairs stayed in world affairs and had a little quality and even some debate. The corner room was bursting at the seams with teenage hormones, which is unusual from the demographic of the resident 30 somethings.

Ah a time when I had time to post too.

Like the alignment of planets or a celestial event only to repeat itself once in a lifetime, gupshup was fun.

Now newbies abound and each and every topic covered appeals to the lowest common denominator and we’re in negative figures in General.

So in these autumn days of my posting career as the light dims and we all sift ever harder to glean some fun from the place I’d like to take a little time to thank the people I’ve enjoyed interacting with and reading over the years.

Some characters and funny with it, people like Sadi Sobi, Madhanee, Lastnightness, shahreen, matsui, and even UTD, Ohioguy and myvoice when they can separate fun from their day jobs in WA.

Some great passionate writers with burgeoning and established talent like Sarah Splendour, Shahreen, Lajawab and hiccup.

Some great debaters and like Malik73, Achtung, Nadia and Myvoice

The withering wit of the likes of PakstaniAbroad, Femme Fatale, queer and funguy

The sagely stalwarts Like Fraudia, Faisal and Ehsan

The comedic satirists, Like Xtreme, Zaalim and gamma on a good day.

The relaxed cool of Abdullah, Rooster blues (Allah bless his soul) and hayaa.

The enjoyable tales real or otherwise of Cat woman, Munni smile and Roman

Every man and woman jack of ‘em has their faults in abundance as do we all, but they’ve given me the pleasure of their virtual company over the years and it’s about time I acknowledged it.

This isn’t a farewell or a break just a watershed and a reflection.

I feel better now, like the brief euphoria you get after chuckin’ up.

Re: Simpler days

You are missed too Thap :)

Re: Simpler days

Never did bag myself a millionaire … come to think of it, I never bagged me a man :frusty:

I miss them days too :teary1: I feel so lost on Gupshup these days, with all these kids :o

Re: Simpler days

This thread smells like stagnant water.

Re: Simpler days

You can take a cat-o-nine-tails to me any day Thap, you don't even have to ask.

Re: Simpler days

Very well put Thap.

Re: Simpler days

Re: Simpler days

Thappy:
While you’re lamenting the passing of the good old days…
Let us not forget the young American nickname of KRUSTY who came to Gupistan in the good old tranquil days following 9/11 bearing :flower2: :flower1: for his hoped-for newfound Muslim cyberfriends. Notwithstanding the passionate writers, withering wits, great debaters, and sage stalwarts we have come to love and admire, in less than 2 months, poor young KRUSTY learned to hate all Muslims and exchanged in his :flower2: for a :kaboom: . He is, no doubt, stationed in or around Bagdad today, a proud :soldier: seeing if he can get in the Guiness Book of World Records for stacking the highest naked pyramid. We should not pass judgment on KRUSTY for it is we who created him and we who must take some of the responsibility for his actions.

Maybe we should have seen the symptoms in their early stages and forced him into the Corner Room for a couple of hours a day. If we had, he might be laying in his bed today in Newark, happily making himself blind, and oblivious to what has become of our beloved Gupistan.

Re: Simpler days

During these times, many people came and went...Many left the same way they came...

The few transformations I saw were remarkable though...

There was this supposedly gay guy on GS, who came and after a year or so, became a straight guy...Even started doing his Salat...Can't remember his name...

Anyways, the point is that, a thousand KRUSTYs sadqay on me witnessing a part of such a transformation...

And Thap, we must also not forget the moderate voice of Gupistan, Spock...Speaking for the masses from the depth of his innermost intestine, the one to emulate in finesse of speech, the one, who in any argument with that guy kept slapping the term gay in his face...Despite him saying I am not like that anymore...Truly, Spock deserves an award of being subtle...

Good post, and thank you for the mention...

Re: Simpler days

Okay I just did a quick search. How come there were no threads opened on sept 11th in this forum? Or there was, and it was deleted later on? Just curious....

Re: Simpler days

I see no mention of Naik Larki above Thap? Now tell me ppl when and why is it that she dissapeared? Please tell :(
Nicely done Thap!

Re: Simpler days

I think Naik, Chan Ji, john and the gang were a slightly earlier era than what Thap just recalled.

I remember those days.. specially the chat... wonder if it still works and wonder if it still comes alive like when Thap used to set it ablaze flirting in multitasking mode with any and all female nicks that dare entered.. i don't think he even spared the bibis!!

Good times indeed Thap..

Re: Simpler days

PA, In addition, I always think of Rani, ZZ, Bombaykid, Stud, BulheyShah, all the females who were single (now married) back then.

How about a re-union gig?

Re: Simpler days

They were simple times suited to simple folk, PA I only got to know you coz I thought you were some foxi rani from lahore.

Madhanee what you mean like some fesitval 'gupstock' or something.....open the threads and they will come.

Re: Simpler days

Yeah Madhanee look at this thread he got a whopping 14 posts (some dupes but no ones looking). So my advice Madhanee open a thread (I hopeit doesnt get moved)

Re: Simpler days

Uncle 13 posts and this is for old members not timers. I try and be inclusive whenever I can so next time my grannies in town I'll get her to say hi.

Re: Simpler days

^^ Oh so sorry beta maybe cry a tear to the mods and have them delete my posts like they did yesterday. Didnt mean to intrude, but maybe next time be explicit in the name of the thread so old timers dont come and post.

Re: Simpler days

Thap- it was also a time when a somehat estranged friend of mine helped me thru a very tough time and posted pics of a frisky kitten. I did not think at that time that I would face anything tougher..how wrong I was.

I think a lot of us just got a lot busier..(no madhanee not bustier, thats only you)

some of us changed, circumstances as in my case and Xtremes, growing up as in the case with lajawab (kinda), and some just truned into grumpy old men like madhanee and some into grumpier old men, like myvoice.

Re: Simpler days

awwwww verizon feels unwanted...

Re: Simpler days

oh and some of the "khilafah" focused HT guys got married, gotr hired, got a life, got scared or ended up in gitmo, cuz we dont see many of them around anymore either :)
