simple netbook

so my mumzy who is allergic to computers has decided to take the plunge, mostly for Skype with her siblings. what is a good simple device, she is not into tablets concerned that she will break the screen so we are thinking netbooks. any recommendations.

This does not need to have any bells and whistles, it will be used for Skype almost all of the time.

i need to figure it out soon since they are headed back to the old blighty mid august

iPad.

She can also record videos and upload to YouTube so easily. Maybe then, then, we can finally get her pepper chicken recipe step by step :hmmm:!

Re: simple netbook

I bought a mini laptop for my little princess and she loves it. It has built in camera and she skypes with her cousins and friends under my account , she is too little to have her own skype account.
This mini does not have dvd but a builtin camera , I added one gig extra memory because it came with 1G memory. I will give you the brand name tomorrow because she forgot the lappy at her mamo’s home and she is sleeping already.

Re: simple netbook

With netbooks you don’t really have to worry about brands, they are all equally crappy. Get one with about a gig of ram, camera and mic and about a 4-5 hour (advertised) battery life. I picked up an Acer Aspire 1 D255E, one not too long ago for about $200 from MicroCenter.
It could range from there to about $400, for extended (6 cell) batter, more memory etc. Normal screen size is about 10".

But I would agree with Niksik. My mother was here when I got my iPad and the first 2 weeks she was stuck to it, watching YouTube, browsing the maps and Skype. She’s never really touched a computer before.
