You all missed the most important similarity. In both the world cups of 1992 and 2009 we beat the inform teams, sides that were unbeaten in the competition - undefeated before they met us!!
The 1992 World Cup consisted of a league format with 9 participants - 8 Test Playing Nations (Australia, India, Pakistan, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, England, South Africa and West Indies) + Zimbabwe
NZ were the surprise top team of the tournament who had beaten each of the other 6 test playing nations + Zimbabwe before they met us in their last pool game. We beat them quite comfortably and then again in the semis
In ICCWorld Twenty20 we again beat two undefeated inform teams - South Africa and SriLanka - in succession and the rest as they say is history
^ True, well said. Pakistanis wanted Indian team to sit in front of the TV, watch and learn how one should win a World Cup. One of your own “Indian TV channel” rightly pointed out this fact that Dhoni should learn from Younus Khan how to win a world cup, and Indian team should learn from Pakistani team the true spirit of winning.
Please watch the second video of your own Indian channel
I was at the semi-final v SA and the atmosphere was truly electrifying.
In 92, we beat NZ in Christchurch group match to end their unbeaten record when they had beaten everyone else in the tournament. Of course, we beat them in the semis in Auckland with Inzamam's great innings of 60 from 37 and THAT six from Moin off Harris.
In 09, we beat SA and SL who had both been previously unbeaten in the tournament.
Intikhab Alam :) ... he was the coach on both occasions
The poor guy did not get any credit on both occasions... but I think he is the only coach who has won two worldcups I may be wrong cuz the Aussies have won 3 in a row & may be on two of those they had the same coach
