silly wedding question

…but I’m curious. In the weddings I’ve seen, the bridal couple sits on a stage and then people come up to have a photo taken with them. How did this tradition start - I mean, what did they do before there were cameras? Is there more to it than having a photo taken?

Re: silly wedding question

The couple through out the wedding is on the stage and not just for the photoshots. people come on the state to wish them.

Even before cameras they always had a center place decorated for bride and groom to sit, everyone would come down to them to extend their wishes and give them the salami (gift money).

Re: silly wedding question

Mama back home people usually give money instead of wedding gifts, the gift money is called salaami :D The general rule is that you go up to the couple and present the salaami to them.

Re: silly wedding question

I think it's for memories- in my family, we keep an entire wedding albums containing pics of every family who came :)

Re: silly wedding question

like you said your self .. its a silly question ...:D

Re: silly wedding question

^^:omg:

Re: silly wedding question

I also think that it is for memories not particularly for photoshoots and such. Aunties have such a photographic memory that they practically remember each tiny detail of who came and gave what.

Dulha and dulhaans are considered/treated as celebrities on their big days and that has been going on for ages.

Re: silly wedding question

It looks better from photographic style point if the bride and groom go around the tables thanking the guests for showing up

...but, there are so. Many. People. o.o
