Silk Epil Xpressive

Has anyone tried it? Reviews? Braun Electric Shavers, Trimmers, Epilators, and IPLs Also, since it isn’t available in a dual voltage version, have you tried using it with a voltage adaptor? Is that safe?

Thank you in advance for your help!

Re: Silk Epil Xpressive

hey,i was about to ask the same..plus is it safe for bikini areas??i cant wax,its tooo painful!

Re: Silk Epil Xpressive

Apparently it has attachments for everywhere! ;) But I would really like to hear from people who've actually used it. And if they could answer the dual voltage question, that'd be awesome.

Re: Silk Epil Xpressive

Anyone?

Re: Silk Epil Xpressive

I don't have this exact model but it is by Braun and I will say they revolutionalized epilators. I say you buy one. Much easier to use than wax and most come w/ a pain-reducing application. And it removes from the root. I can't live w/out mine. Just make sure you exfoliate sahi sain before hand.

Re: Silk Epil Xpressive

^Thank you! Sorry about being a pain, but what do you do when you go to Pakistan? As in about the voltage difference? Is it safe for the epilator to use an adaptor?

Re: Silk Epil Xpressive

Epilators are usually rated 100-220V.

This was from the manual from one of the models:

"For electric specifications, please see printing
on the special cord set. The special cord set
automatically adapts to any worldwide AC
voltage"

I hate epilators now though; me, my sister, my cousins - everyone binned them.

Why do you all hate epilators? Bad experience?

Re: Silk Epil Xpressive

They break a lot of the hairs (which isn't too bad) but over time they cause really bad ingrown hairs.. I'm talking boils. They cause distorted hair follicles; waxing also does this but to a much lesser degree.

I was okay with it on my arms and underarms. Everyone else had a problem with it on most places. One of my cousins has horrible scars on her underarms and she didn't even use hers that often. I went for Laser where-ever appropriate and the others have started to follow suit.

The period between stopped epilator use and starting Laser, I bought a proper wax heater and various hot waxes that allow waxing of really short hairs and just waxed every few weeks instead.

Re: Silk Epil Xpressive

Ah. I think using this in tandem with wax might help....

Re: Silk Epil Xpressive

^That's how I used to use it. But one summer, I used it more frequently on my legs and by the end of the summer.. not a good sight.

I think they are okay for now and again. But I decided I'd rather shave between the waxes.

Re: Silk Epil Xpressive

Hair removal in general is a pain. Life would be amazing if we could go around hairy. Or were naturally hair-less. Except on our heads. Sigh.

Re: Silk Epil Xpressive

You can read the Laser thread that was started last week.

For the legs, bikini and underarms, where there is coarse and dark hair LHR is great. Done right, you can get excellent results in a few treatments. Totally worth the investment. Not just for not having worry about it any longer but also because your skin is in so much better condition once you stop waxing/epilating and just need the occasional shave.

I have this epilator is fabbb, and yes it has attachments for diff parts of the body!
I bought becos i heard it was good for facial epilation, and has a seperate attachment for that, as ive mentioned in the laser thread I have very bad hirsutism and altho epliating the face was painful at 1st its just alot quicker than standing 4 hours and threading.

Where did you get a wax heater from? I just tried a quick google search. Didn't find much.

Also, what kind of waxes work with those heaters?

Re: Silk Epil Xpressive

I’m in the UK so I bought the Hive student starter kit (coz it’s cheaper than buying a wax heater and the waxes separately) from here:
http://www.justbeautifully.co.uk/products/Body/Waxing

I believe GiGi heaters in the US are similar.

In the beginning I used hot wax (water dispersible). I couldn’t use the Hot Film Wax properly and found it too messy. But later, after watching some youtube videos I found it really good for waxing my arms as it’s really good for short hairs.

You can buy the professional waxes and other consumables from ebay stores too.

Hi tweety pie, I've PMed you with some questions, please reply ASAP. Thank you.

Re: Silk Epil Xpressive

When I go to Pakistan I carry around my adapter that you plug right into the outlet. You have to search for the correct voltage but I bought my second one from Lahore (the plug-on converter/adapter) after I lost my first one and it worked amazing! I use an adapter for my straightener as well. It's totally safe, I did it for 4 months when I was there last time.

And yes, epilating can give you ingrown hair so the best way to do is after a shower or to exfoliate using either a coarse loofah or a body scrub. It's soooo much faster and hassle-free than waxing. And yes, laser is great but kinda pricey for bigger areas such as arms and legs.

Re: Silk Epil Xpressive

^I think if you read any of the documentation, they advise not doing it after a shower or shower straight after.

None of these methods will halt the distortion of hair follicles that cause ingrown problems in the long term. All they will do is making epilating easier.

There is a big difference between an adaptor and a voltage converter.. so make sure you know what you are buying. But most of these smaller electrical items like shavers and epilators work over a voltage range, so just need an adaptor, not a voltage converter.

And laser works out a lot more expensive for small areas if you calculate the price per sq cm. i.e. underarms are typically £70-£100 per treatments. Full legs are £200-£300.
