Silk and Saffron

I just started reading this book by Kamila Shamsie. I’m having a really difficult time getting into it. Reading the back cover, the book has gotten rave reviews and the author’s writing style has been compared to Salman Rushdie. Now I’m not surprised that I can’t get into the book cause I couldn’t get into anything Rushdie wrote either.

Has anyone read it? I am determined to finish this book now that I’ve started it … but I just want to know, will the story get any better?

Re: Silk and Saffron

What is it about?

Re: Silk and Saffron

I thought the book was called Saffron and Silk?

Anyway I agree with you Mehnaz, I found it hard to get into initially too......mind you, the family tree at the start of the book should've been a big giveaway. Any book that needs visual aids like that was bound to be hard to read.

Re: Silk and Saffron

It’s Salt and Saffron … I don’t know where I got the ‘Silk’ from. :dummy: I’m not sure what it’s about Sara as the story hasn’t really begun so far. I think it’s about the history of some famous family (make belief) in Karachi/Pakistan.

Re: Silk and Saffron

its so complicated. I read it quite a few years back, so I do not remember much. Sometimes, it seems as if its a deliberate attempt on part of the writer to confuse the reader or it 's just done to pull a story out of that situation. Its just okey, won't make for a very interesting read.

Re: Silk and Saffron

I just don't think I want to continue reading this book right now. I'm gonna shelf it and start The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time.

Re: Silk and Saffron

It’s a very good book but it’s also very different. After reading The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time, I had a great deal of appreciation for my senses and faculties.
