Salaams my brothers and sisters.
My family is one of those "broken families" that split up due to the partitions. I have relatives in India, Bangladesh as well as Pakistan. It's really sad how blood relatives are so far away now.
I have lived in Bangladesh as well as in Pakistan a good number of years. I have heard both sides of the story.
What the Pakistani Army did in 1971 was not right at all. They are responsible for several crimes including mass murder of innocent civilians and raping of women. What they did in former East Pakistan is very little known by West Pakistani people. Due to obvious reasons, these events were kept secret by the Govt. as well as the Pak. Army. As a result few Pakistanis know the truth about East Pakistan.
On the other hand, the Bangalees have had first hand account of what happened there. It happened in front of their eyes.
During my stay in Pakistan and also from Pakistani friends here in the U.S, I've seen the ignorance. 99% of Pakistanis don't know what happend. They don't know the other side of the story.
My friends...do not think of me as someone trying to put down Pakistan. I love Pakistan since I grew up there as a child. What happened in 1971 is not the fault of Pakistani people, but rather the Army's and the "zaalim" government of Yahya Khan.
We can blame all we want on India, but the truth is that the Govt is at fault. India was like the 'Big wolf' looking for a chance to eat up Little Red Riding Hood
