Significance of by-election

Oppostion (ARD) is getting united to place a candidate in the upcoming by-election to challenge Mr Shaukat Aziz. What will be the possible scenarios.

Looking into my crystal ball, even if there is no extensive rigging, certainly we will hear charges to that effect. I think Shaukat will win, after all, as these are considered ‘safe’ seats by the respective feudal lord of the area. Having said that our national politics will get very interesting if Shaukat loses.

What do you think?

but i am damn sure that Shoukat will win
and ARD has not yet announced any candidate to contest against Shoukat Aziz and i think time is over for the nomination papers to be submitted [sorry if i am wrong]

the election is not going to be interesting at all cause its not actually what u call an election ......its a selction

Time for submitting nomination papers is not that important. Cz everyone and his uncle submits nomination paper to have some political leverage in the ensuing negotiations. Whats important is the date to withdraw nomination. Most political parties try to strike a deal before this date, so the ballot paper does not contain extranous names.

I thinik ARD announced a joint candidate today.

by elections in Pakistan almost always favour the incumbent government, the reason being there is:
1) a low turn out
2) Provincial and Federal government offers "sweeteners"
3)It is easier to rig by transferring officials and appointing people who are good at ensuring "positive results"
4) Considering this governments performance in recent by elections the seats will definitely be rigged (as is the way in Pakistan it'll be overkill, they don't need to rig the seat for Aziz to win, both seats are very safe seats)
