*sighs* How do you....

…stick to your faith?

Who says nothing is impossible? I’ve been doing nothing all my life!

mostly.. cause I know it better than any other.. and feel comfortable being in it.

or maybe I am just too lazy to do so otherwise.

take a pick

And how do you abstain from every single wrongful thing?

Who says nothing is impossible? I've been doing nothing all my life!

I try my best to practice it like it is. This is the case with any religion, if you do not practice it, you lose its ground and fall into its gutters! Those who fall into the gutters are called “the corrupt ones.” Muslims are today[what they are what a sad state], because of those who went underground for their own sake and left the practice of Islam alone. Instead, they went on fulfiling their self-satisfication and brought the whole Muslim Nation in a gutter! May Allah help us get out of this gutter of misery! Ameen.

*At-Tabarani and Al-Hakim narrated that the Messenger of Allah sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said, what translated means, “Iman wears out in one’s heart, just as the dress wears out (becomes thin). Therefore, ask Allah to renew iman in your hearts.” *

Iman…..faith.
Our iman symbolizes our faith, our trust, our belief, and our strength. Iman is not something that can be bought, given, taken or stolen from someone else. Our parents cannot give us iman, nor can we give iman to them or to our brothers, our sisters, our friends…no matter how much we want to. Iman, can only come from Allah swt, it is something which is only His to give. We have indeed sent down Signs that make things manifest: and Allah guides whom He wills to a way that is straight.(24:46) …guides whom He wills…think about that a little bit…now here’s a hadith I’d like you guys to read, The Prophet, peace be upon him, narrated: "Allah says: 'I am to my servant as he expects of Me, I am with him when he remembers Me. If he remembers Me in his heart, I remember him to Myself, and if he remembers me in an assembly, I mention him in an assembly better than his, and if he draws nearer to Me a hand’s span, I draw nearer to him an arm’s length, and if he draws nearer to Me an arm’s length, I draw nearer to him a fathom length, and if he comes to me walking, I rush to him at [great] speed. (Bukhari and Muslim)
…subhanAllah

Lets face it, that verse from the Qu’ran and the following hadith show that we have to have a genuine desire to believe… ‘if he draws nearer to Me a hand’s span, I draw nearer to him an arm’s length, and if he draws nearer to Me an arm’s length, I draw nearer to him a fathom length,…’ Not only does iman come from Allah swt, but it comes upon our desire—our longing—our pursuit for/of it.

Our iman is not invariable, like so many other things, its affected by what surrounds us and what lies within us…it does not remain constant, it ebbs and flows like the tides, sometimes weak, sometimes strong….at times our faith is so strong it seems like every word that leaves our mouths is in praise of Allah swt, nevertheless there are also times where our faith is so minute, so miniscule that it seems like a speck of dust…almost nonexistent…but we have to remember that it is there, and when it is weak we must strive with all of our being to strengthen it. No matter how hopeless it seems..or how many times we feel near to despair…

Hum sa…u asked how do we keep from sinning. The answer is a simple one, and it reflects upon our iman, our faith. If we believe in Allah swt, if we are continuously striving towards Him, why would we want to seek His displeasure? I know I answered in the form of a question….but the answer to your question truly lies within you…within us all. Allah swt says in the Qu’ran, Is he then to whom the evil of his conduct is made alluring so that he looks upon it as good (equal to one who is rightly guided)? For Allah leaves to stray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. So let not thy soul go out in (vainly) sighing after them: for Allah knows well all that they do!(35:8) To keep from sinning, we have to have possess at least two things, the first lies within our iman–our faith, its the genuine..the sincere desire to live our life for the pleasure of Allah swt. The second is that we have to truly believe that the ‘sins’ are wrong, if we cannot consider them truly wrong, then how can we dissuade ourselves/repent in complete sincerity? How can a person who considers his/her evil deeds to be good be guided to the true path, to the noor of Allah swt?

The Prophet, sallallahu alayhi wa sallam said, “Each heart has its own passing cloud, just as the moon when it is shining and there comes a cloud that replaces its brightness and darkness. Whenever it (the cloud) moves on, it (the moon) will shine yet again.” (Abu Nu`am & As-Silsilah As-Sahihah). This is such a beautiful hadith. It makes me think of that saying, the one where people say that every cloud has a silver lining. I mean think of all the nights u go outside to look at the stars, sometimes the sky is clear and radiant with the soft glow of the moon, but then there are times when its not and u can see nothing at all…..those times—when u can see nothing at all is when a cloud overtakes the moon’s brightness and replaces it with darkness, but when this cloud moves on, the moon will appear luminous and radiant once again. I think what I mean to say is that the reason why we sometimes feel so far from Allah swt…maybe…is because we have these clouds hiding our hearts, preventing us from seeing ‘the light’, preventing us from filling our hearts with iman. I guess that the clouds will vanish only when we once again begin to strive for iman with as much or greater intensity than we did before, and so its that striving for deen wherein the silver lining becomes visible. Our hearts reflect the noor of Allah swt, just as the moon reflects the light of the sun.

Alright, i’m out,

Why focus on the positive? How about why/how do you perform the good deed?

What is a Sin? What is a good deed? What is Iman? How do you follow the Iman?

For some these are simple questions. For some these are rehtorical questions. For some these are extremely deep questions. I was born in the faith I have. I have an understanding of my faith. My actions are a reflection of my understanding of my faith; be they sins or good deeds.

Hence, the Quranic injuction to keep good company, refrain from pointless arguements,
and preaching whatever good knowledge one has about Islam. But these messages are for those who understand.

GFQ thanks for the great response. Yeah I guess the answer is within us all along. But sometimes we don’t have the guts to look for it smiles But…that was a great reply nevertheless. Sure cleared off the dust from my conscience winks
Jannu I understand what you mean. I hate pointless discussions about religions. Religion is not for discussion or arguements, it’s for application. Concentrating on positive side is something I firmly believe in as well.
But!! When I read Quran with tafseer.. Or even when I read about the Sahabas and the way they lead their lives, I wonder how many of us are actually worthy of Jannat (most of all, I worry about myself

http://www3.pak.org/gupshup/smilies/smile.gif

)

Who says nothing is impossible? I’ve been doing nothing all my life!

So true. Allah (sbwt) knows all and knows best. You can make efforts, all that Allah (sbwt) asks. I do not have the heart to read the tafseer for when you read the tafseer everything becomes obligatory on you (ignorance is bliss? NO, but, I feel much fear). I have not been able to read the story of one sahaba completely without completely breaking down and trembling.

Hum Sa, you are not alone. There are millions who cry thinking about their futures, about their fate, having feeling of dispair for living in times where one feels so dirty, living with family over which there is no control, feeling ashamed of themselves when reading the salat.

What will happen to us who try to make futile attempts to please Allah (sbwt)? Will we be saved? What a feeling of dispair! How great were those who lived during the times of the Prophet (sws)! We can’t even amount to one speck of dust on their feet.

Ya Allah, to sub jaanta hai. Tu sub ki khabar rakhta hai. Ya Allah, hum teri ibaadat kartei(n) hain aur karney ki koshish kartei(n) hain. Ya Allah, hum sey jo ghaltia(n) hoti hain, un ko maaf kar. Tu hi sub to bakhsney waala hai, tu hi sub to maaf karney waala hai. Ya Allah, tu apney piarey mehboob key sadqey mein, sub momin-o-mominaat to sahi aur sidhey raasteypar rakh. Ameen. Summa Ameen.
