Dont know if you know but he married a Christian girl Roxelana from his harem, who bore him his successor Selim II. It was the first time a Turkish (or any muslim ruler) married a lowly harem woman and made her his queen of heart, and consequently the queen of the Ottoman Empire at its absolute height, arguably the largest consecutive Muslim empire in history.
