Sialkot?!

:salam: to all in GupShup land,

has anyone out there ever resided in or know anything about life in the town of sialkot?

i would appreciate some first hand insight into that place… please enlighten me if you can.

:help:  :konfused:

thanks,
billie

They really make good sports stuff, like bats or soccer balls.
Been there, done that!

What exactly do you want to know? I have family there, and am waqif with the chappa chappa of Sialkot? From 'dramma alla chowk' to 'puranagar'!

The people there are very rich, thanks to the excellent sporting business they have over there, and they have pillars on the center of the roads. Strangely enough, you wont find a single taxi in Sialkot. That is all for now, baaqi break ke baad.

:hehe:

basically any description you can give me about life in sialkot would be great.

i just want to gauge whether or not i could survive living there… i’ve previously only lived in the states, saudi, and briefly karachi. when and if i land there, i’d like to know how much shock i am in for.

how’s the city? the locals? the amenities? education? the climate? etc etc…

thanks for your response.

As much as I like the city, I would recommend a big ‘no’ for you. Trust me, you wont like living in that city, if youve lived in places like the states, karachi, saudi. The only place where you would survive would be the cantonement area, but then again, life over there is very dull. I go there all the time, as my phuppo lives there, but I dont think I would be able to live there permanently. There is not much out-door entertainment. There are only a handful of good restaurants such as silver spoon and eat more. For sports, there is a good club called ‘service club’, but I dont know if thats good anymore or not. Traffic there is horrible, driving is a nightware, mainly due to all the ‘tangaz’ (tongas) there. And yes, the ghoras (horses) also leave behind there droppings on the road.

thank you, mr spock sir for your views. appreciate your frankness. :biggthumb

actually if i were ever to go anywhere near sialkot, it would only be due to my husband’s military posting! so yeah, i guess we would be in the cantt area. :soldier:

so basically i hafto figure out whether i wanna stay back with the in-laws or tough it out there. :bummer:

thanks for your help!

You never told me you were going there as a military posting. I think in that case you should go for it, as the Cant. area is pretty saaf-shabaab, but the only thing is that the life there is very dull. However, if you have television, cable, computer etc, you wont have any complains. My dad taught the army, and alot of his students have been posted in Sialkot, and their wives have enjoyed living there. One of my dads student who at that time was a captain is now a General got posted in Sialkot, and we went to his house, it was like a palace!!! One thing though, I dont know if you have kids or not, but there are only a handful of good schools there, such as ‘City School’, ‘Convent’ (for girls only).

it was nice to read your thoughts once again, mr spock. thanks!

the cantt sounds just as exciting [or dull] as the naval base in saudi… so i guess i could manage.

yeah we do have a three year old son who just started montessori…

[if you care to see his pic, just check out “proud paki mama” posted in friends & family image gallery]

well thanks once again. in the meanwhile i think i should start my packing list just in case!

I saw that thread, excellent picture, really liked it, infact go to that thread, and read my reply!!

btw, if anyone goes to Sialkot there is something very interesting that you guys shouldnt miss at all. Its called the ‘banta-bottle’ (marble bottle). Its a beverage, with a bottle that has a marble on top of it, rather than a lid, and you pop the marble and it goes all the way down and you can then drink the bottle. Its really fun!!! I used to cost Rs. 4 and was locally made, in the street where we have Allama Iqbal’s house. It used to be there in Rawalpindi a long long time back, but now it can only be found in Sialkot.

Re: Sialkot?!
