Airport in Sialkot to take off on 6th
The citizens’ dream of having an airport will come true with the inauguration of Sialkot International Airport Limited (SIAL) on Nov 6. The local business community has built the airport on self-help basis at a cost of Rs2 billion. Talking to reporters here on Saturday, SIAL Chief Executive Khawar Anwar Khawaja said the personnel of Airport Security Force (ASF) had taken charge of their duties at the airport to handle formal cargo and passenger flights operations. He said this mega project was the first-ever project in South Asia completed by the private sector on self-help basis reflecting the business community’s struggle, commitment, dedication, enthusiasm and sincerity.
He said the project would help enhance local exports to worth $2 billion from the current $1 billion.

^^^ I dont see anything because of Musharraf or co, as it has been sole effort from the local businessmen and is a private airport in the country, not own by CAA for a change. hope it will bring more quicker exports from this sports and surgical city!

PIA launches Sialkot-Karachi service
PAKISTAN International Airlines (PIA) has started twice-weekly services on the Sialkot-Karachi route from November 30, the airline’s Qatar manager Mohamed Shafiq has said. The Sialkot International Airport, which was built by the local business community on a “self-help basis” at a cost of $33mn was inaugurated last week.
PIA, Pakistan’s national carrier is operating a B737 aircraft on the new route. The first flight PK-396 landed with 118 passengers at Sialkot airport on Friday, Shafiq said. Initially, PIA will operate flights on Tuesdays and Fridays. The flights leave Karachi at 11 am to reach Sialkot at 1p.m. The return flights depart at 1.45pm to reach Karachi at 4pm. Passengers travelling from Doha on PIA flights on Monday night (arrival Karachi at 5.30 am on Tuesday) and Thursday night (arrival Karachi at 5 am on Friday) will have convenient connections to Sialkot, said Shafiq. The new airport also serves the people of Gujrat and Gujranwala districts. Pakistan Cultural Forum general secretary Khalid Amin Butt and Pakistan Muslim Welfare league president Tahir Mahmood Chaudhari who come from Sialkot and Gujranwala respectively, have expressed their happiness and hailed the Sialkot business community for setting the rare precedent.

infrastructure projects require lots of foreign exchange. if we had $1bn of forex as was the case at the end of 90's, we would not be seeing development. private sector cant do anything if govt is mismanaging the economy and economic indicators look very bad.

** Yeh, right try to get the businessman of Faisalabad and tell them to invest in a airport. Its not an easy job to get together businessman of Pakistan.

Yes well done Sialkot.
However the credit goes to Musharraf government for allowing this Mega project to go through.
The same project was proposed during prior governments and unfortunately they didn't allow it.
For a mega project like an Airport, you need money for sure, but you also need a tonne of other approvals from the national as well as international authorities.
You can't just flatten a piece of land and start your runway.
