Shujaat played no role in NRO deal: US envoy
ISLAMABAD: The outgoing US Ambassador to Pakistan, Anne W. Patterson, has refuted allegations about PML-Q president Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain having played any role in the National Reconciliation Ordinance deal.
Talking to reporters after attending a farewell reception hosted by the PML-Q chief at his residence, the ambassador said that so far as her information was concerned Chaudhry Shujaat had nothing to do with the NRO and the allegations levelled against him (by Gen Musharraf) were not based on facts.
In his recent interviews Gen (retd) Musharraf said that he had acted on the advice of Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and Chaudhry Parvaiz Elahi to reach an agreement with PPP leader Benazir Bhutto.
NRO my brainchild: Ch Shujaat
President PML(Q) Ch Shujaat Hussain has said the National Reconciliation Order (NRO) was his brainchild as he had lodged the idea of the law and proposed its title. In an interview, he disclosed he had given the idea of the reconciliation law to benefit all without any discrimination and he didn’t want to facilitate few persons with it.
