It is quite true to note, that today, Bangladesh, like Nepal has become just another subservient state of India.
Pakistan, OTOH has had to pay for keeping at least some of its sovereignty intact.
One of my cousins lived in Bangladesh and coined a phrase to describe their economy....
Everything is made in India and the eggs are laid in India
He said it was impossible to survive in Dhaka without resorting to buying items made in India.

You are right, when i visited my family in 1996, 1999 and 2000, I witnessed first hand how the economic comodites are illigally brought into the country from india, how the media propagates hatred of their brothers and sisters in pakistan and promotes india and the hindus as our friends and allies.
This is totally unacceptable from a government which rules over 120 million plus muslims, who believe in Allah as their creator and desire the rule of their creator. The same can be said of pakistan where the economy is dictated to by america via the IMF and world bank, the muslims of afganistan are seen as our enemies and america as the ally and friend.
The messenger of Allah Muhammed saw said " The muslim is the brother of another muslim, he is not unjust to his brother and nor does he abandon him nor disdain him "

It's actually the other way around brother Farooq. The death toll says it all. Look at the number of Banagalis dead. If you supress a certain people for years, what else can you expect? We tried to strip away their mother-tongue from them. Racism was common in West Pakistan. Banaglis were not treated equally. No wonder they wern't allowed to join the army. Most good positions were held by West Pakistanis.
You guys talk about Bangalis being "traitors" and that fighting against another Muslim is forbidden and blah blah blah....What about West Pakintanis? Or should I say the Pakistani Government? You guys want to bring Islam into this? Fine. So what does hadith say about this. "No Muslim is superior than another, except in piety." Right? So why were Bangalis looked down upon as inferiors? When the rights of people are are taken away from them what choice will they be left with?
And then what about the atrocities commited by Pakistani Army. Deny it all you want, but the proof is there. Mass graves, thousand of missing people....innocent civilians murdered, women raped. What was their fault? "They are Hindus" was the excuse of the army. What happened in Bangladesh in 1971 is a mystery to West Pakistani citizens, because obviously the indicents or events were kept secret by the Army. But if you were a Bangali or living in East Pakistan at that time you would know the reality. The scene is similar to what the western media is doing nowadays.
Going back to a personal note. I was not even born back then. But this is coming from a guy who has relatives in Pakistan and Bangladesh. So I've heard both sides of the story.
I think Zakk bhai put it best: "I do not defend Mujib ur Rehman, or others for their actions, but the fact is Islam does not condone oppression nor does it condone massacres done in the name of Islam. Using Islam as an excuse does not fit in my opinion. I would recommend you read G W Choudhary's book the last days of United Pakistan..it's a very good read from an insider's perspective.."
PS: It is called the Shaheed Minar and is not really a shrine, rather a monument in honor of all the people who have died in the war.
