In India, especially the Punjabi’s will always exagerate their wealth and pretend to be more rich than they actually are. The ladies will only talk about their gold or new diamond set, how many maids & servants they have etc etc and the men would say ‘I drink only Jonny walker’ specially when in a house of a person who is serving them a cheaper brand.
I get sick of this attitude when I go to India, they make the less wealthier feel small & insignificant.
At a relatives party, this happened in front of me!! - one rich business brother telling his poorer elder brother that he only drinks Johnny walker - soon a massive verbal fight took place - all the guests left the room, the wives were doing their best to calm things - to no avail.
Well, to cut the long story short, the rich brother henceforth brought his own 'Scotch whisky' whenever he visited anyone less rich. Welcome to Delhi!
umm honestly i’ve never come across that in pakistan, when u go to their house, they always give you their best stuff, serve food on best dishes, serve pepsi and soda (which most ppl dont/cant drink on a regular basis), etc.
or maybe i just don’t notice snice i dont listen to ppl and stick in my own lil world
i was in amritsar recently, this family i visited was very down to earth. we saw their daughter's wedding pictures, very extravagant wedding it was, and we were like whoa! and aunty said ke hum punjabis mein there is this obsession with status symbols, we have to do all this show-baazi even if we can't afford it ... our society demands it.
my dad was posted in delhi, and he stayed on rent there.. and the landlady of the house was forever showing off to my mother whenever mum visited, meanwhile, the landlord used to to borrow money from my dad, and beg him not to say a word to his wife. well, one day the wife found out and she was terribly embarrassed..
sad state of affairs it is, all these ppl living beyond their means... many of them sunk in debt, but you'd never know it from all their show-baazi!
