Unlike the bombing in Waziristan, the police/ranger action was welcomed, if not desperately sought by the local population to protect them for the marauding MQM terrorists.
Indeed it was, people did not want these terrorists there period.
They did not make it an issue of ethnic pride, and welcomed the govt action..many did not know that the action while succesful in getting rid of the MQm rats would also impact the victims of MQM who happened to live in the same areas.

Similar to the action blowing up the terrorist meeting where the locals claimed innocents had died until govt started sharing lists with nat'l id numbers.
but there were many innocents that were impacted by the action in Karachi.

the action in karachi was brute force in certain areas, ask residents of those areas what happened, they had been dealing with the MQM thugs and then the action against MQM thugs got them as well.
no they were not bombed, but they were attacked with machine guns. do read up on how that entire operation unfolded.

the similarities hwever are that it was a govt level decision to wage war on its own people in which innocent ppl were also impacted. and no one was hanged the third day as the previous poster hypothesized.
