What do you think?
Most definitely. Use of animals in circus also should be banned.
Penultimately yours,
Southie
PS Bumrah, who bowled the penultimate over today, was man of the match
I agree. We aren’t supposed to use animals for entertainment.
See mostly zoos are the entertainment setups in cities and thats an attraction for not only locals but also visitors. And its a very big source of income for cities.
The alternate of zoos will be very big wide parks, more like a safari. But these setups cannot be made in cities It has to be in a remote location like we have one in NJ.
Principally yes, zoos and circus shouldnt be there and there should be sanctuary parks.
Is it okay to exploit animals because it brings in money?
As CR implies, just because something is an income source does not make it right.
Is it a rhetorical question ![]()
YES! I am with @LP and @Southie on this one totally!
What I suggest that there is a great opportunity here for the New Generation High TECH ! Enthusiasts to design ROBOTIC Animals for Zoos around the World! Big! Big! Market Potential HERE!
Kids will still go visit the Zoos, but the Zoos will be full of Robots
Also the animal Robots will walk amoungst the visitors
and not need to be behind the Horrible Cages ![]()
Give Disney Land and MICKY MOUSE some big competition for the Family Entertainment Money! :k:
Absurd idea, Zoos help in education of young children, are a hub for scientific research in Zoology, are important for training and development of animal handlers, experts and care-providers, play a vital role in conservation of endangered species, and also have economic benefits for local communities providing jobs to thousands of workers.
Instead of banning the Zoos, one should pay head towards conservation and protection of animals in their natural habitat, reduce eco pollution and deforestation, and also give importance to limiting effects of global warming, otherwise you will see Tigers only in zoos in 20 years time.
*Zoos are prisons for animals, camouflaging their cruelty with conservation claims," Mimi Bekhechi, director of international programmes at PETA, explains. “Animals in zoos suffer tremendously, both physically and mentally. They often display neurotic behaviour, like repetitive pacing, swaying, and bar biting. Not surprising, perhaps, considering the typical polar bear enclosure is one million times smaller than the area they would naturally roam.”
" Only 15% of the thousands of species held in zoos are considered ‘threatened’," says Will Travers OBE, president of Born Free. “An even smaller proportion are part of captive breeding programmes and, of those, a tiny fraction have been released back into the wild. That’s not a record that justifies tens of millions of wild animals kept in zoos.”*
*PETA’s Bekhechi adds, the aim of breeding programmes is just “to produce baby animals to attract visitors.”
A 2014 study by the Society for Conservation Biology found that of over 2,800 children surveyed following visits to London Zoo, 62% showed no positive learning outcomes.*

Yes, we should pay head towards conservation and protection of animals in their natural habitat, reduce eco pollution and deforestation, and also give importance to limiting effects of global warming but that does not justify having zoos.
As far as economic benefits are concerned, even those who kill elephants for their ivory tusks can make the same claim.
Yes, they can have research centre’s for the purpose of zoology and other scientific learning. Either way a very limited number of zoos are used for this purpose.
No to Zoos but yes to circus!
No to zoos, yes to circus without animals
Signed mostar and mostart
I agree
Primarily I'm not against "banning" I'm in favor of refining and regulating. Makes sense?
Are you against banning murder also? Should we just refine and regulate? What do mostar and mostart thinks about this
Up to what extent? As in, what changes do you think should be made?
Caging animals is permissible given they are treated well. Zoos being banned...I grew up with trips to zoos and aquariums with classmates and friends. Although entertaining, these trips were also educational. Granted, we don't see the poor treatment that may take place behind the scenes, and not in all cases are these animals being treated poorly. I'd assume its cruel to constrict an animal that roamed freely and forced into captivity. The animals birthed at the zoo don't know anything else, they've adapted to their environment...except the pandas. Free the pandas!!
Everything depends upon money and resources. In a World where a third of children live below the line of poverty, many not having access to clean water, where will you find money to invest in habitat protection and animal research? In a world where millions of children die with hunger and disease, some experts are getting upset over psychological feelings of captive animals! At least those animals are protected from illegal hunting and poachers unlike their counterparts in the wild.
First get enough resources to protect the global animal habitat and fund animal refuges and then think about depriving thousands of people and their families from their livelihood. As far as the pain and psychobiological distress suffered by the animals is concerned, we might first start by going all vegetarians.
Not really I think it should to be to some extend..
You make all those valid points. When it’s a question about spending the already scarce resources on fighting hunger, providing basic life amenities to millions around the globe vs running wildlife sanctuaries, the answer is obvious ? at least in my mind.
But, here is a slightly different perspective: the same ideas of providing a learning environment for younger generations, to carry out research on wildlife and study the effects of habitat loss on wildlife can easily be applied to a sanctuary or an open air safari place where these animals can be given lot more freedom and as natural & healthy environment as possible.
Last time I went to a zoo was in Berlin about 3, 4 years ago. Being in a first world, highly development country you’d think the zoo is a providing a premium life care for animals, yet the whole zoo was wearing a gloomy feel to it with misery & distress written all over the place. Couldn’t spend more than 2 hours there and promised myself never to spend my money to support this abuse ever again. Caged confinements, concrete floors, artificial lighting and erratic human behavior all day long, all these factors seep the life out of animals in captivity.
There are wildlife sanctuaries big & small around the world trying to provide better living conditions for animals along with a safer and healthier interaction and learning environment for humans. I’d rather and do support orgs like Kevin Richardson Foundation, spread over thousands of acres in South Africa and run through private donations and volunteer manpower. The same model can be scaled down and adopted by local governments thus creating employment yet eliminating the need to keep these torture cells.
