should you lie instead?

This person who is always there when her manager needs her, she covers up for the shifts when no one is willing to come only because she understands the frustration. Sometimes on her day off, if she gets a call to put in extra hours, she goes there and do it only out of generosity.

So once this person needed a day off and asked her manager ahead of time if she can take a day off for her cousin’s engagement. This manager straight up said no and told her that he cant arrange anyone for her shift if she can she can find someone who can switch shifts with her on that day but he is not gona do anything.

She could have easily called in sick on the engagement day without even mentioning to her manager about the engagement in advance and would’ve got a day off but instead she chooses to be honest.

So do you guys think honesty is the best policy? But most of the time at work we are indirectly forced to be dishonest because they don’t respect the honesty.

I would take that as a sign that I don;t need to working at such a place!

Re: should you lie instead?

everybody needed to lie somtimes

even the manager does when it suits him

Re: should you lie instead?

Yup.

Re: should you lie instead?

NO.. she should not lie, which I'm glad she didn't. Now, she knows what kinda boss she got and how she's gonna handle him or the company from now on. If the Boss asks her to put extra time after her shift ends. She should clearly say (with a smile on her face of course) "Sorry, because she didn't get a day off that day when she needed it badly, I think I'm gonna line up my priorities now and spent some quality time with my family and friends" and walk away... it would make her boss a bit guilty, and he won''t be an a** next time.

Re: should you lie instead?

What about a white lie?

Re: should you lie instead?

Honesty used to be the best policy, not anymore. The key now is to know how to act and react in a given situation, learn to improvise.
