Especially when they ask to live away from inlaws and have a luxurious lifestyle and all, should they have a choice to quit work? I find it very hypocritical of our women to want to be able to quit work whenever they’d like yet find it disturbing if their man wanted to be a stay at home dad.
I for one do not believe they should have this choice. Is it really wrong to expect your wife-to-be to be a working woman? I don’t think so…
Yes. I thought womens rights were all about having the choice to work or not.
Yes and no! why is it okay for women to quit whenever they want regardless of being pregnant or not and yet men are scrutinized for even entertaining the idea?
^Can you put a gun to their head and force them to work? Sure they have the choice, but with choices come consequences (both good and bad).
Also, how many desi guys would want to be stay-at-home dads? It would be interesting to read the reasons.
Yeah, that's what I mean. The thing is men never even think this could be a possibility so technically they don't think they have this choice. They are conditioned to believe this would never be okay with their partners. As for women, they lose the right to ask for a more luxurious lifestyle if they are not willing to work for it. There are women who feel it's completely okay for them to not want to work ever.. Should this be acceptable?
For centuries man is considered as provider , hunter and gatherer woman has the choice to take up this role if she wants to do so. Nobody can force her to take up this role , it is always by her choice depending on her interest , liking and necessity .
All societies accept this fundamental rule.
What are your argument in favor of forcing her to take up this role other than "if she wants to live away from her in laws and she wants better lifestyle than her man provide then she should be forced to go and work."
This is not a strong argument because again gender role place this burden on man to provide a separate abode for his wife and work hard to make this abode comfy cozy for his wife and kids.
P.S : I though you were a woman right activist , you are about giving more right to women not take them away from them . Did you forget to look yourself in the mirror today ? You are still a woman .
^ @Mirch - Don't you think we have erased gender roles to an extent? Keep in mind I am really just targeting desi women who do not reside in a male dominating country. Women just like men are encouraged to earn a living and support themselves so I don't get this attitude that they should be able to quit whenever they like and not lose any liberty when it comes to financial decision making. It's a double standard in my book. O and they frown upon the idea of their husbands quitting their job.
P.S. I am not a women's rights activist. I just don't like double standards. It's a sad fact that it's normally women on the receiving end of these double standards and abuse. This time it's men!

You convinced me , all those khwateen who are getting moti by breaking roti at home and do nothing other than back biting should be sent to a labor camp.
I think that married couples should live within their means, and yeah, if those means mean that the wife can’t get ALL the things she wants (in terms of luxury items) , then yeah, she should maybe get a job and not complain about it.

Why must you think I am trying to convince you? :p There's a big difference between a woman who doesn't really qualify to get a good job and a woman who spent most of her life in school and still thinks she should be able to just not work for no apparent reason other than just the fact that she is a woman.
