Joel Stein article: Has ‘Time’ magazine insulted the Indian American?Should Time magazine fire ‘Joel Stein’? I personally did not feel the article was offending.

CNN fired 20 year veteren Octavia Nasr for sympathizing with death of Shia cleric when Jewish lobby protested against her Twitter comment.

Re: Should TIME magazine fire Joel Stein?

I cant remember if i have read an article as insulting to any ethnicity as this one, in mainstream american media.

Re: Should TIME magazine fire Joel Stein?

got it.

Re: Should TIME magazine fire Joel Stein?

the article is quite racist tbh.. its not just a joke... its a nonstop rant against the "invading indians"... i dont think only indians should be offended by this.. all immigrants should be...

the guy is complaining that the italian restaurant is gone.. well its america.. not italy.. italian culture is not HOME to america.. america is a melting pot..

Re: Should TIME magazine fire Joel Stein?

whether Time fires him or not, I am glad now we know what Joel Stein is.

Re: Should TIME magazine fire Joel Stein?

so where is the FREEDOM of EXPRESSION sentiments of Indians???

Isn't the author allowed to express his feelings about the changes in his home-town???

Re: Should TIME magazine fire Joel Stein?

Boo hoo!

NY Times, TIME, CNN, Blah bleep bloop and a million other news outlets are infested with Indians who constatly spew hate against Muslims and Pakistan in particular in an effort to become more American than Americans themselves.

1 man says something to the effect of reality agaist an American Suburb, and OP and other sidekick try to make it look like it's holocaust all over again (God Forbid).

One thing is apparent though, Indians (officially that is) association with Isrealis is sure rubbing off on them. Funny thing though is, neither are Semites by origin yet use Anti-semitic card oh-so-often.

And most of my post was just satire, to be taken with a pinch of salt. Nonetheless, I hope it carries the message across.

Nobody is asking to kill him for his comments. It is just apparent know to most this was a little racist and so he shouldn't be endorsed by a magazine like TIME.

OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH its hurts.. isn't it.. today the demand is to fire him, tom. it would be to kill him.. just wait and see... anyway he was right about the things.. whereever ( out side india) there is majority of Indians, the place sucks for non-Indians

BTW it already started, are u aware of the fact that dozens of RSS mobs have attacked a news channel in Indian Capital!!! just google the news... u'll know y???

Re: Should TIME magazine fire Joel Stein?

hanibal.. your assumption that this will turn into indians demanding the writer be KILLED.. is hilarious..

Re: Should TIME magazine fire Joel Stein?

^^ Isn't it!!! i learned it from my neighbors

Re: Should TIME magazine fire Joel Stein?

That was a funny piece. I laughed.
There is some truth in it.

Re: Should TIME magazine fire Joel Stein?

Nothing wrong with the article. The author has freedom of speech just like other authors have freedom to draw pictures of mohammed.

Re: Should TIME magazine fire Joel Stein?

obviously Time and Stein do think they screwed up:

TIME responds:* We sincerely regret that any of our readers were upset by this humor column of Joel Stein’s. It was in no way intended to cause offense. *
Joel Stein responds:* I truly feel stomach-sick that I hurt so many people. I was trying to explain how, as someone who believes that immigration has enriched American life and my hometown in particular, I was shocked that I could feel a tiny bit uncomfortable with my changing town when I went to visit it. If we could understand that reaction, we’d be better equipped to debate people on the other side of the immigration issue.*
