What do you think about Pakistan with out Punjab, Sindh, Baluchistan and NWFP ?
Rather a redistribution in to provinces or adminstrative units which are not based on language. What do you think ? Would this help remove the provincial hatered ?
I personally am in favour of either a significant increase in the number of provinces or a redrawing of their existing borders. The reason being the existing provinces don't make sense in many areas and have divided groups. For example the Hindko speakers and Seriaki speakers have been divided among different provinces. The Pashtun presence in Baluchistan keeps causing problems whenever it comes times for govt formation there. The list goes on and on...dividing strictly on the basis of languages doesn't make sense either. So a combination of language, and geography should be the way.
Making smaller units would be more practical and easier to administrate, right now the Governor or CM of NWFP, Baluchistan and Punjab probably has never visited half the districts because of the distances and how long it takes.
but on another point, we have had this discussion on gupshup before, and I agree with the argument most people have said. Creating new provinces might create more problems then solve. Soo like I said it's just my personal opinion.

Zakk, indeed I recall our earlier discussions. Just a reminder, no I disagree, because the issue here is a fairer, more equitable dispersion of resources and greater economic development in every province. Furthermore, any fragmentation of provinces will create more tensions rather than solving them. For example, right now everyone blames Punjab because it is the lkargest in population, however later it will be the Sindhi speaking province or Pashtun speaking one taking the vblame. Plus, we will be creating animosities where none exist, for example between Seraikis and Punjabi speakers in Punjab, Baluchis and Sindhis in Sindh.
Zakk and the_paindoo, while I don't doubt your intention for a more cohesive Pakistan, we just may start a civil war if we start dividing up the current province.

If the story about pakistan being an imperfect acronym is true then that'd make it Aitan if Punjab and Sindh are taken out - the K was never there anyway.
Check this out.

Personally I think, having provinces based on language or biradari is a bad idea. It negates the whole concept of “two nation” theory based on which Pakistan was formed. Provinces should be based on functional need, not to satisfy the egos of local leaders. Having more provinces translate to more government expenditure on Chief Ministers, Governors, cabinets and Secretariats. Pakistan can not afford such luxuries beyond what is absolutely required.
We need small (very small) federal government, and much more autonomous local governments.

Sorry if my earlier question did not emphasize on the redrawing of provinces on non linguistic bases The main idea of redrawing provincial boundries the provinces would be to remove the ligustic identifications. So I would definatly *not * suggest further divisions on the bases of language.
Redrawing in to four or more provinces should be based with the goal to have better adminstration and better cohesioan.
