Capital Talk (December 18) with Imran Khan, PML-N’s Ayaz Amir and PPP’s Qaira who showed up late AGAIN (in a spot of bother)
Should the head of ISI be a civilian? Stephen Cohen and Richard Armitage have proposed that in a recent policy report on Pakistan.
Imran laments the slavish mentality of our leaders incl. ‘buzdil’ ex-commando Mush. He says the present government seems even more frightened of their ‘masters’ than the last administration. Slams ‘double standards’ of ECB.
Beggars can’t be choosers. Every time there is a crisis (like the Kashmir Earth Quake in 2005) we put our begging bowl shamelessly in front of US, EU, Saudis and China. It’s no wonder then that the Saudis (not that they are a promising model themselves. I have always regarded Arabs as a very impolite race. They are just very lucky. They have got no brains but they do have oil!!) and Arabs call us miskeen etc. We need to promote a culture of trade (I fully understand that the prevailing security situation is hampering foreign investments etc.) rather than aid and get our own house in order, strengthen institutions etc. to minimise corruption by present and subsequent governments. I know there is presently an economic melt down throughout the world but if we start now we might get somewhere in 20 years’ time.
As per Maleeha Lodhi (ex Pak ambassador to US and UK) we have spent something like $35 billion dollars on the war on terror over the past 6 years, the American aid amounts to just $12 billion of that. So despite tall claims by the US administration it is us who are footing the bill and incurring net financial losses. No wonder our economy is collapsing. I am sure there are other factors apart from war on terror such as corruption etc.
As soon as you get rid of RAW we'll get rid of ISI. :)
"you"? I'm not indian and anyways if you wait for abolishing of RAW or whoever, Pakistan will no longer be around, only Islamic emirate of Talibanistan.

I think you hit the nail right on the head.... Oh BTW if we get rid if ISI the great Indian Spanking Agency the birth rate of India will drop to almost Jero.
Time for reform has long gone. Time for abolishing certain institutions may be the only way now.
Yes. And the first and foremost institution (if we can call it one) on the chopping block must be the madrassah system.
This institution has single handedly poisoned and harmed Pakistan. With the demise of mardrassah system, education will go to "educators" while our future generations will be taken out of the iron grip of jahil imams.

We can't just chop it off, we will have to provide alternative system with government in control.

You certainly represent Indian sentiments ! Wayward and without much brain to it,,,!
Pakistan, Islamic Republic o,f is a soveriegn state and talibans are fundamentalist group an eye sore and a thorn in the lives of modest pakistan who have certain demands that are not so bad, but few that matters are way too extremist for any muslim society.
Specialy now Taliban is a major threat to the whole region including the coalition forces.
I'm sure Pakistan will be in a negociation position with them to settle issues and maybe turn them against India in the time of need ! Khayal bura nahi hai lekin khush-aind hoga. Keun ?
actually alot of the schools in pakistan are not upto scratch as compared to world standards. its not just the education system either, theres many facets of life that need to improve to see the type of results people are demanding today. all the demanding is being done by western based people yet we are not supplying the genuine help to remedy the situation. the truth is nobody can offer the type of support needed, so the best option is to let pakistan progress by itself. these issues take decades to put right.
the entire region needs peace to heal, no short-cuts or force will work. for pakistan to have peace there has to be peace in afghanistan. progress is a multi-lateral process in sub-continent

Sorry to disappoint you, but Pakistan is here to stay. As for you not being Indian, umm yea & I'm from Mars.
