Should "Sindh" be removed from Indian national anthem

Now that “Sindh” is no longer part of India and belongs to Pakistan, should “SINDH” be removed from the Indian national anthem.

Sindhi is one of the official Indian languages and there are millions of Sindhis living allover India, there is no longer a state where Sindhi is the official state language. Indian currency have Sindhi in it so are many official documents.

Should ‘Sindh’ be part of anthem, SC asks Centre

The Supreme Court on Monday issued a notice to the Union ministries of home, external affairs and human resources and development on a public interest litigation petition seeking deletion of the word ‘Sindh’ from the national anthem.

The PIL, filed by Sanjeev Bhatnagar, contended that Sindh was now part of Pakistan and hence should not be mentioned in the national anthem. It should be substituted with ‘Kashmir’ or some other word, the petitioner said.

Remove Sindh from national anthem: Petition
A Bench, comprising Chief Justice R C Lahoti and Justice G P Mathur, issued the notice, despite the Centre, in its informal response, stating that the word ‘Sindh’ represented the culture and not the province.

It said exclusion of ‘Sindh’ from the national anthem would hurt the people of the Sindhi community, whose contribution to the national cause could not be overlooked.

Contesting the statement, Bhatnagar argued that the author of the national anthem, Rabindranath Tagore, had himself translated his work into Hindi stating therein that the word ‘Sindh’ referred to the province and not the culture.

“Who would be more accurate in translation and interpretation of a particular part of the anthem than the author himself?” the petitioner asked, while stating that the national anthem suffered the fallacy of text.

The Centre said the national anthem, as it is sung today, was adopted by the Constituent Assembly in the august presence of top national leaders on January 24, 1950 despite all of them being aware of the fact that ‘Sindh’ was part of Pakistan at that time.

Granting relief to the petitioner would result in demand from other quarters for inclusion and exclusion of words in the national anthem, it argued.

Intersting that Pakistan has never protested for mentionening Sindh in our national anthem.

Re: Should "Sindh" be removed from Indian national anthem

appears to be an Indian affair.. and thankfully we don't have a forum for that.. so take it elsewhere..

Re: Should "Sindh" be removed from Indian national anthem

^ Exactly. This is the American affairs forum. Posts regarding India should be limited to ridiculing their Air Force, berating their culture or Gujarat and the plight of Musims in India.

Re: Should "Sindh" be removed from Indian national anthem

damn it, we are not that limited in what we discuss about india here.

no no we make fun of their accents here as well.

Re: Should “Sindh” be removed from Indian national anthem

i must be missing something here…pakistanis making fun of indian accents?!?

or are you talking about their hindu/urdu accents? in which case, i wouldn’t know what’s good or bad - i’d guess it’d be subjective.

Re: Should "Sindh" be removed from Indian national anthem

^ No we make fun of their English accent. To bad you can't differentiate between Pakistanis slight accent with Indians heavy accent. Some one needs to I take out the ear wax.

Re: Should "Sindh" be removed from Indian national anthem

^ I must ride in different taxi cabs than you do.

Re: Should “Sindh” be removed from Indian national anthem

well this is definitely news to me…and i can’t think of a more perfect example for the “pot calling the kettle black” idiom. :hehe:

Re: Should “Sindh” be removed from Indian national anthem

Yeah you must be riding in some Sardaar ji’s Cab.

Re: Should “Sindh” be removed from Indian national anthem

Let me give you a better example of “pot calling a kettle black”

When White Americans say that English women are ugly.

Re: Should “Sindh” be removed from Indian national anthem

i think this is an inferior example.

thanks

Re: Should “Sindh” be removed from Indian national anthem

surely you did not think that was a serious post. I dont mind our indian visitors assuming the role of the defenders of mother india as I see here every day, but this was just a joke, nothing to get serious about

and as far as making fun of indian accents, heck even my indian pals make fun of other indians accents, I think its mostly north indians making fun of south indians.

Re: Should “Sindh” be removed from Indian national anthem

lol, i’m not a fob. i think fobs from both pakistan and india have equally horrible accents, that’s why i raised a brow…not because i’m defending indian accents. you guys all generally sound like tutti, so i don’t understand this “i have a slightly less horrible accent than you!” business. it’s pretty sad.

(i still love fobs, btw)

Re: Should "Sindh" be removed from Indian national anthem

This is original bania plan to first include Sindh in national anthem and then claim that since we have Sindh in national anthem, it should be given back to us.

Re: Should "Sindh" be removed from Indian national anthem

Dude, i did not call you a fob anywhere, but anyways good to know you are not one of them desis wearing horizontal stripe or plaid halfsleeve shirts with too-tight dockers, white socks and topsiders

like, not being a fob , I can assess accents quite well. and although fobby accents are mostly a pain, there is def a difference between fobby karachi vs fobby lahore, and same goes for fobby bombay versus fobby kannada or kernataka accents.

and thus one fobby accent can be more tolerable than another one. I would take a fobby karachi burger accent over a fobby sakkhar accent anytime, just like i would take a fobby bombay accent over a fobby kannada accent anytime.

Re: Should "Sindh" be removed from Indian national anthem

Gentlemen, are you guys asking me to close this thread.......otherwise, lets get back to the topic.....Thanks.

In my opinion, Pakistan did the right thing by not asking India to remove Sindh from its national anthem. Given the fact that Pakistan and India share common history (only to some extent), there will always be some “overlapped” issues. Now correct me if I am wrong, but I think that Sir Dr Mohammed Iqbal wrote that famous poem:

“sarray jahan say achha Hindustan hamarra”

so what do you think about this? Should Pakistanis ask Indian government to ban this song because Iqbal is a national poet of Pakistan?
