should saHrii/ iftar timings be ADJUSTED in Highrise Buildings?

**salaam,

Fatwas have been issued in Dubai that those living in High-rise Buildings must adjust their SaHrii/Iftaar timings accordingly due to extreme heights. They suggested that saHrii/iftar times be delayed by as much as 3 minutes depending which floor one lives.

strange!

when we fly, we hear the announcement that says, “you may break your fast because it’s iftaar time on the ground level”. i heard this announcement when i was flying with Kuwait Airways. i think we must break our fast in the air in relation to the time on the ground and NOT in the air.

why did the fatwa asked for delay in iftaar? it must be same as it is on the ground even if it’s brighter up on top of the Burj-al-Khalifah.

what do you have to say?

Fatwa rules Burj Khalifa residents must fast longer**

Residents in the world’s tallest tower have been asked to delay breaking the fast during the holy month of Ramadan by two or three minutes due to the extreme height of the building.
Muslims around the world fast during Ramadan’s daylight hours, but break their fast with an iftar meal once the sun has set and the call to Maghrib prayer has sounded.
However, the sheer size of the 828m-tall Burj Khalifa means that many residents will continue to see the sun for a short period after it has set on the rest of the city.
As a result, the Department of Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities has issued a fatwa, or ruling, to require the tower’s residents to break their fast or go to their suhoor (pre-sunrise) meals according to three different timings

**no, i’m sorry i couldn’t find any source of the fatwa.

i think in any situation where your life and/or health is in IMMINENT danger [NOT perceived], you are allowed to break fast and/or not fast at all. aapkaa kia Khayaal hai?**

Then this fatwa seems to be an urban legend.

To your question. Yes that is the criteria to discontinue fast there is a caveat the person has to make up that roza when that danger is over.
If the disability is permanent , only in that case they are allowed to give fidya.

**EXACTLY!

iske liye DR se ruj'oo karnaa aur uskii maahiraana raaye kaa honaa laazmii hai.

i'm diabetic myself, my doctor said i must NOT fast if the roza period is in excess of 10 hours. that means i can NOT fast when the ramadhan falls in summer months. i'll be OK to fast during winter months though. i always felt guilty but when Imam of masjid [who has a PhD in fiqh from Madina University] told me that it's OK not to fast. he asked me to pay fidyaa which i give alHamdolillah.**
