In order to protect its national interests and to fight the malicious propaganda, should Pakistan create its own Internet?
Iran is going to do that in the next years and China has firm control on its Internet and media as well. Given the war like situation, I think it will be a good idea to censor some of the bought media in Pakistan which is so openly demoralizing the nation.
Western Govts. do it so often and ban the foreign propaganda if it is against their national interest (with the pretext “this is endangering american lives” or something like that)
Good thinking
But do you know who will control it ?
Slaves of USA
They yet have 100% control on media and controlling internet too.
Google Pakistan is in their control and they slightly remove the pinching links.
I am saying it with honesty and due to my experience of last three years.
You mean generally for any country? Or the sarcasm was about Pakistan only?
@pasha Sahab: One step at a time, the question was if Pakistan should go that way? The second step would be to think about who will control it. I am quite sure IF a govt decides to develop its own internet to safeguard it national interest, against the american wishes, it can not be termed as an american slave. What do you say?
If a network is spread over a country and then this network is connected to some other friendly countries networks, would you still call it Intranet? Being an IT professional with more than 10 years of experience in IT security field, I fully know what I am talking about.
As the history of Internet suggest, it was created by US military, and Internet as we know it today might on the face value be managed by ICANN, but there is no doubt whatsoever that the heart and root of the distributed servers that makes up Internet is still under US govt. control. And the US govt is unwilling to hand this over to a world body, thats why China threatened to create its own Internet root few years back, which created quite a ripple in the US.
Pakistani Internet? How about you starting to read, what is internet? how it works? Who control it? .. and else else.
Because of people like you, Pakistan is laughing stock for the world.
Well the easiest way to stop 'propoganda' against Pakistan - is banish 'English'.
Over the years stop teaching anything except Urdu.
Soon only Pakistani's (& perhaps a few others) will be able to read & write in 'Urdu' - there you have it "your own internet".
You can start on Gupshup too - most of us Indian's will be out in a flash.

Only if those friendly countries also put firewalls on any outside countries but who will it be? afghanistan or somalia?
Seriously, if you are an IT expert then you would surely know how "easy" it is to achieve such an endeavor, as countries like china put in firewalls but you just can't replicate the creativity provided by an open platform .
Just another opinion but wouldn't that be quite horrid? To know that someone in an office somewhere controls everything you know. In situations such as the recent finding of Osama Bin Laden all the negative press surrounding Pakistan could be completely filtered so that everyone would only know what the government officials want them to know. You'd only have to buy the major newspapers and you could brainwash an entire nation!
The 21st century is supposed to be all about globalisation, mixing of cultures, opinions, religions, it would seem like a step back when everyone else is moving forward. Shutting off from the entire world may be big bucks for the guys at the top who could make their own google and youtube and make millions but would it would be detrimental to the average Joe.
Show me any news about MQM,Land Mafia's brutal acts in Pindi-Islamabad.
I have proves but can not show,
Don't want to be a missed person.
It is true that very much of a media part, hide news about gangs, Bhatta groups and we should name the largest organised Bhatta group of Pakistan, that is MQM. Ever you felt that GEO do not report about MQM cases, target killings while they report every thing about Dr Zulfiqar Mirza. Why GEO hide facts about MQM. And GEO's parrot Kamran Khan ever in his life reported about MQM. Even he do not talk much about 12 May incidence in which MQM was quite clearly involved, as it was shown on other TV channels.
