Many old cricketers are saying this that since Pakistan is missing two A’s and considering the pitches in WI, they should attack with Spin bowling.
Specially seeing some recent batting of Aussies against spin, we know they can struggle against spin. So what do you think? Maybe Pak can go spin heavy against such team, although I would not want to weaken my batting at any cost now.
thoughts?
Re: Should Pakistan attack with Spinners in future matches?
AA we have no option really but to boost our batting and attack with three seamers (Sami, Gul and Azhar) and three spinners (Afridi, Malik and Hafeez) i.e. 6 bowlers to share the 50 overs among them.
**We know our bowling is weak in this tournament. **
So the issue really is our batting. All our main batsmen must realise that they have to score big in every game or just forget about winning any games in the super-eight round
So my team when everyone’s available
Hafeez Imran Nazir Younis Yousuf Inzamam Malik Afridi Akmal Azhar Sami & Gul
This team bats well down to 9 (Sami is no mug either)
In the absence of a match-winning bowling attack we really do need to bat deep (till 9 that is). In the game against WI our batting effectively finished at 7 and we all know what happened.
I am losing my top here but our blo**y openers MUST give us decent starts i.e. 50-60 runs atleast (is that asking too much?) for our experienced middle and late middle-order to click.
And I am not convinced that Kaneria is needed in ODIs. He leaks too many runs (for that reason I won’t play Rana chacha either) and isn’t really a proven match-winner in ODIs. If either of the two Hafeez or Nazir fails consistently then a case could be made for dropping one of them and sending Akmal or Malik to open the innings AND playing Kaneria.
Re: Should Pakistan attack with Spinners in future matches?
I withdraw this thread.
I believe Pakistan just needs to attack . Period.
With a game plan in mind, use the best option available and attack. That means Inzi batting up in the order, Younis opening, and etc.
The reason is our Captain is already in the “lets just focus on the next 2 matches” mindset.
He is crawling back into isolation IMHO from the team by making such negative comments. He should say we will win and you will see a changed plan from the next match. I mean this is the same team that can post 300+ on good days. So how are these pitches any different then india or SL? or even Pakistan. Come on.
Re: Should Pakistan attack with Spinners in future matches?
why did abdul razzaq have to go and get injured as well?? his absence seriously upset the team balance, and pakistan should now play the following once afridi's ban is over:
mohammad hafeez
malik
younis khan
inzi
yousuf
afridi
akmal
azhar
arafat
sami
gul
that gives us 5 allrounders, and sami being no mug either, our batting would be going down to atleast 9 that way...and yasir has a first class hundred, and about 23 first class 50's, so he can bat for sure...and the guy is a pretty decent bowler...
Re: Should Pakistan attack with Spinners in future matches?
the cricninfo staffs profile on yasir:
"Yasir Arafat is an all-rounder of typically Pakistani ethos; ideal for ODI cricket but also you suspect capable of occasionally critical feats in Test matches, though he is yet to play one. He is useful as a lower-order plunderer - he averages nearly 27 at first-class level though his bowling remains much his stronger suit.
His type of straight, full, skiddy bowling courtesy a slingy action accounted for Andrew Flintoff's wicket at an ODI in Karachi in December 2005. It has also helped him to nine wickets against England in a warm-up game earlier during the same series and it once accounted for five wickets in six balls in a domestic game in December 2004 (four of the five were either leg-before or bowled), a feat performed by only three other bowlers. He can generate pace and when conditions are helpful, swing.
He has good experience of English conditions; having played league cricket and for Scotland, he was recruited by Sussex in the 2006 Championship season. In his first three games, he took 17 wickets with two five-wicket hauls as well as scoring a couple of fifties. He has been on the fringes of the Pakistan squad for a number of years thoughj given the allrounders ahead of him - Abdul Razzaq, Shahid Afridi and even Shoaib Malik - he isn't likely to become a permanent member anytime soon."
