Should Mushrraf step down?

I think Mushrraf has one last chance to exit gracefully w/o being humiliated and thrown out like most Pakistani leaders. If he is wise he should step down and leave before its too late.

Updated at: 1945 PST, Tuesday, February 19, 2008
LAHORE: Muslim League-N leader Nawaz Sharif Tuesday called President Musharraf to step down from office.

He said the decision about eligibility of President Musharraf should be taken from the same court that was hearing the case.

Addressing press briefing in Lahore Nawaz said the freedom of judiciary and democracy are the foremost targets of his agenda. He said he was talking with all parties for formation of the government.

The PML-N leader said after restoration of the judiciary it would be decided whether Musharraf’s election as president is legal or not.

He said the judiciary could not regain its freedom without restoration of the deposed judges. He also demanded release of all detained lawyers.

He said the matter of Dr. Abdul Qadeer would also be reconsidered.

Nawaz said he would meet the Co-chairman f Pakistan Peoples Party Asif Ali Zardari in a day or two to discuss all concerned matters. He said he was in contact with ANP’s Asfandyar Wali to discuss all options for the formation of the coalition government.

Sharif also his party would lead a coalition government in Punjab and all parties will be consulted on the matter.

He said the PCO of Nov 3, 2007 has to be nullified and the judges will have to be reinstated. On question of the president, he said the restored judiciary can abjudicate over legality of president’s election.

He said he expects the army to abide by the constitution and law.

Nawaz said he is committed to upholding his agenda of upholding democracy, rule of law, sovereignty, independence of judiciary.

Lauding media role and its struggle against efforts to gag it.

Responding to questions, Nawaz said PML N is ready to work alongside any political force for stability of Pakistan. All democratic forces must unite on one platform, he said.

Nawaz invited all political parties who have won elections to sit down and struggle against dictatorship.

He hinted at taking in the PML Q leaders who want to join their “mother party.”

Re: Should Mushrraf step down?

What are your true intentions? :D

Btw, in realpolitiks, the pml-n or ppp can't survive in the country together as some "unity govt" let alone represent pakistan internationally unless there is an outside force in check. I know since i lived through the nineties. Already there are rigging and counter rigging claims by pml-n to PPP and vice versa that you can check in the pakistani papers you like to quote....

Re: Should Mushrraf step down?

If the guy has any self respect or shame he would accept the verdict of the electorate which absolutely routed his supporters yesterday, and step down gracefully. But knowing this guy who held the nation to ransom on Nov 3 to save his kursi he will not go quietly. But he should go, the people of Pakistan have spoken and they have given him a big thumbs down.

Hmmm!!! those questioning why people did not come out on streets got their answer yesterday. People believe in the power of the ballot box.

Re: Should Mushrraf step down?

^ things that ...NAWAZ... and the lost bb didn't do? Musharraf is more creative than you think.

Re: Should Mushrraf step down?

Don’t worry, PML (N) and PPP coalitions will oust him when they form the government. :hehe:

Re: Should Mushrraf step down?

^ The coalition offer is already on the table. PML(Q) which was going to win 180 seats and which according to mush was going to win the elections lies routed and destroyed. Mush next.

Re: Should Mushrraf step down?

Then the fun will begin when both parties turn against each other.. Too bad pakistan gets screwed in the process but oh well allah is running this country anyway... :)

Re: Should Mushrraf step down?

He should not step down

Re: Should Mushrraf step down?

You’ve spoken too fast, my friend. Seems like he is going to hang around for while until he booted out. In any case, PPP and PMLN should take away his power to dismiss government, & that will leave him powerless figurehead president.

Next they should restore judiciary and put generals responsible for coups on trial one by one before independent judiciary under the article 6the of the constitution. If Mushrraf still hangs around put him on trial too. After all, he is the biggest violator of the constitution and the law.

Re: Should Mushrraf step down?

Do I have to spell them out? :D

Re: Should Mushrraf step down?

I am disappointed they have to go so through so many things before the great President Musharaf is ousted. Does this mean he will there for a longer than a few days as predicted. :(

Re: Should Mushrraf step down?

Yes, we know, you'd rather see deaths of innocent people and destruction of property; just like your killer Musharraf.

Re: Should Mushrraf step down?

Mushy said that he has been elected President for 5 years so he is not stepping down and these elections were not for the President but Parliament. I guess uncle mushy won't step down until he is baiztified to death.

Re: Should Mushrraf step down?

We need more calls at 2:00 am for that.

Re: Should Mushrraf step down?

Don’t the democratically elected parties elected in the freeest and fairest election held yesterday have any power? :hehe:

Re: Should Mushrraf step down?

Why? You want them to bend over backwards for America as well? We know you like having a slave mentality, Aalsi, brown sahib.

Re: Should Mushrraf step down?

So you are saying that the democractically elected parties in the freeest and fairest elections held in Pakistan’s history have no power, and they have to wait for 2 a.m calls to help them out. Cool. :hehe:

Re: Should Mushrraf step down?

^ did the greatest brave leader of country, COAS had no power and had to get 2:00AM calls? :hehe:

Re: Should Mushrraf step down?

Bhai sahab, they were somewhat free and fair because international media and observers were in the country. Mushy and PML-Q didn't have a choice. The result of this election would have been the same as 2002 if there were no international observers monitoring the elections. So instead of yip yapping, go and get a reality check.

Re: Should Mushrraf step down?

Well, there is two way for Musharraf to step down. Either he decides that he is fed up or parliament get together with 2/3 majority to impeach him before he sack the parliament and call for another election.

Actually, it seems that real game is going to start now once PPP would be in Islamabad and would be working with Musharraf. Reason is that, both have similar agenda for Pakistan and thus there would not be any party that would do all bending game to stop things from rolling what in direction what President wants to see in Pakistan.
