The question is; should men be allowed to keep women indoors allowing them to only travel outside with ‘proper companionship’ (a male relative)?

Better to check the answer from a scholar (of your sect) who can support his views from Quranic verses and authentic hadiths.
Here on this forum, you would even find people who might even think that it is allowed to keep women "under the dome". (depends what you call dome)
