I am staff at the moment but thinking of starting on a contract career within the industry of oil and gas where I basically work on long term/ short term contracts earning much more than a staff person but the risk of employment ending at short notice and me having to move about wherever the work is…
So Shall I make the jump from staff to contract? any advice…?? has anyone else ever done this ? regretted it or enjoyed it?
Re: Should I make the jump?
Riz, my man! hows things?? long time no see!
Regarding your question, I would say it really depends on how experienced you think you are in your field... how good are your contacts? how easy it is for you to scoop up new contracts??
Also consider where you stand currently with ur personal life. Kids, wife, education, moving around... is travel involved? if yes, how much?
I know contractors get a lot more than fulltime employees. Some like the money and moving around from job to job, changing their scenery and getting exposure to a lot of different types of projects... whereas some love the stability in life where they have moved around and have now settled for a lesser paying but more stable job.
If you think uve got the experience to be a consultant contractor, and you think getting projects wont be a toughy, and the travel isnt that intense, I say go for it. But really, all depends on ur current situation, both professional and personal...
