Should i go back to my previous employer or not?

I got a situation here,

I had been working in a pvt firm as an Accounts Officer since FEB-08 to AUG-10 then, just because of good salary, i took a wrong decision, i resigned and join a firm where i am working as data entry operator in night shift :frowning: i am really perplex regarding my future, i have fed up with data entry and feel very low as there is no growing choices out here in the existing firm nor it would help me by any mean in future so, yes i miss my accounts job now plus, night shift is really effecting my health.

Now i am thinking to go back to my previous employer but feeling much hesitation as i don’t like my boss at all though, HR head and he likes me too as i used to be a sincere and hard working employee who even accepted late sitting happily.

Now i am stuck, what should i do? should i go back to my previous employer or not? please be noted that i regularly apply for accounts job but no luck since last year.

Awaiting for your advice desperately…

Thank you

Re: Should i go back to my previous employer or not?

If you think that they have an opening and they will hire you back then why not ?

Re: Should i go back to my previous employer or not?

yes they have an executive level opening which is really mouth watering but you know what i did a mistake :frowning: i misbehaved with my boss in last days thinking that i would never see him again :smack: now i am afraid to face him…

Re: Should i go back to my previous employer or not?

LOL , then what is the question ? Very few people in this world will forget and forgive , specially if they were your boss.
As a human being , if I was your boss and you misbehaved with me I will never provide a reference for you let alone re-hire you. This world has 7 billion people , I should be able to find a suitable candidate over you.
Moral of the story is move on look somewhere else.

Re: Should i go back to my previous employer or not?

You have nothing to lose by applying, ppl act out every so often, One of my best bosses was among the toughest and on two occasions i told him to either let me do my job or fire me but quit badgering me on stuff that is under control. Not only did the same boss promote me, he gave me special bonus and nominated me for CEO's award.

point being...u never know, it depends on the personality of the person, your work performance and general relationship aside from a bust up.

Re: Should i go back to my previous employer or not?

If you have left on a good note , by which I mean by giving them advance notice about your decision of leaving them - done proper handing over and taking over .. gave them enough time to train your replacement before you left that job ...

Then going back to them - shouldn't be an issue at all ...

Re: Should i go back to my previous employer or not?

Once you move forward, don’t look back..:nono:

Look for other companies to work in, as someone rightly said earlier there are many other people in the world, why would a boss that you misbehaved with want you back??

You will kick yourself for doing this when you reapply and are turned down.

Re: Should i go back to my previous employer or not?

They say Never burn your bridges. So just because you were leaving, there was no need to get into a pissing match with your ex-boss.

What is done is done. Clearly, your current position is a dead-end. You have not obtained any offers from others. So you have NOTHING TO LOSE in going back to your previous firm. What is the worst they can do to you - say no?

So suck it up, approach them for the old position. Since you were a good employee, maybe they will remember that and hire you back.

Some, as Mirch said, would not give you a chance. But others just might. Go for it!! God Speed.

Re: Should i go back to my previous employer or not?

LOL @ misbheaving with ur boss on last day…
@ Sajid… even if u apply and ur boss hires you, how do u know he is not going to make ur life miserable after hiring you ? If i was you i wud pay more attention to data entry and learn as much as possible keep searching for a job @ 3rd place. Good luck !

Re: Should i go back to my previous employer or not?

Chances are, if you go back, provided your ex-boss rehires you, it will be on a lower salary. Secondly, why put your self-respect at risk by going back and asking for a job, considering the fact that you left on a bad note?

Re: Should i go back to my previous employer or not?

*I'm so bad :( going through my some old emails when i found this, i asked this question one year ago when i got a job in data entry firm, she said to me not switch only for money but i didn't listen to her, i am so bad :(

Dear Sajid,

asper your query, this is to bring in your notice that career ladder ismore important that the high salary structure. actually there are lotof ways to make money.. but not every way is good. what more counts isthe career ladder. the reason is that once you get into better careerladder, you will be able to get better money automatically.
andin the circumstances where you face financial crisis in anenvironment... at that time money doesn't matter, but your careerladder would help you to have a safe future and a better job in future.
hope you understand...
currently, as you may see that the employment crisis exists. getting a better opportunity is good... but when you know you cannot carry on with the night shift, so do not switch. ultimately you will be bored and tired and would want to switch, and at that time the benefits/ salary offered by that data entry company would not attract you.
i would say that stick to the current job. and you may find a better opportunity ultimately.
all the best

Dear Ms. Saima, as you are a HR Generalist, i supposed you can better help me out from a issue, i need your advice.

Recentlyi found a job in a data entry firm (in night shift with a veryattractive salary package and other facilities/allowances) although, iam working in Finance & Accounts field in a private firm and haveexperience of 2.7 years. The matter is that because of night shift, iam afraid that my life will be disturbed alot further, i would supposedto do only data entry out there thus, no future growth.

Nowi am quite disturb and not happy with my decission. Should i take backmy resignation from my current company and continue my working inFinance field or join that firm? My joining date in that firm is of30th Aug' 2010.

waiting for your expert advice...

With Best Regards,

"Secondly, why put your self-respect at risk by going back and asking for a job, considering the fact that you left on a bad note?"

One does not lose self respect in trying for something and failing. The only risk here is he may be turned down. I dont see any loss here (other than some pride) But that kind of pride should not have existed in the 1st place - then the fight with boss would not have happened.

So OK to be humble and go back and see if they will take you back.

Re: Should i go back to my previous employer or not?

You're thinking of hurting self confidence if you get turned down?! Are you joking?! Why do people have such egos when they're looking for employment?!

I'd go back to my old boss. Explain the whole situation to her with as much dignity as I can muster. I'd stay apprehensive knowing what I have done in the past, but like other people mentioned- what have you got to lose?! Worst thing that will happen is she will say no. Consider this- what if she finds a soft spot for you because you were a good employee and decides to give you a second chance?

Also, even if you get your job back and are happy with it- you should still be on the lookout for better opportunities. So if you find something else after, lets say a year or so, you can move on

Re: Should i go back to my previous employer or not?

I can’t believe that u left ur profession for a data entry operator :smack2: but i believe that firm not behaving with you nicely and not well reputed etc… Next time never compromise on your profession …

Lesson Learnt : Never close the doors of last employer on u :cobra:

I think above is advise an advise as well
