hey guys I’m really really confused and need your help! I’m buying a bedroom set with my hubby and the bedroom set comes with a dresser with drawers with a mirror. It can easily fit all my makeup on top as well as fit “extra” clothes and accessories in it as well. However I can’t “sit” and do my makeup as it doesn’t have the opening in the middle of it to put a chair.
I’ve always wanted a vanity and the basic vanities have a too small counter area, therefore I was thinking of getting a desk or some sort from ikea and just putting a mirror over it and making it into a vanity. BUT i won’t have the extra drawers to put stuff as a dresser will, I might have to get a side small chester to fit all that in which may not match my bedroom set, as well as the desk which may not match the bedroom set (which is silver) but I CAN “sit” and do my makeup comfortably.
girls with experience, is a dresser more useful even though i may have to stand and do my makeup (i’m a makeup junkie), or a DIY vanity from ikea that won’t match and won’t have drawers??
i’ve never had either so i never had experience with either.
Basically which one do you guys think i should get that would make me happy in terms of makeup? Please let me know asap! thanks
Re: Should I Buy a Dresser with a Mirror or a Vanity Table???
^ You're the one who needs to decide how important sitting down is to your while doing your make-up. We have a walk-in closet that fits all our stuff, and I keep all my make-up in the bathroom. I do my make-up while standing up next to my sink. I have no problem standing up and I prefer being next to sink so I can wash my hands and/or brushes immediately afterwards (when using cream products).
If YOU are ok with standing up while putting on make-up, then get the matching set. But you're adamant about sitting down, then get the second one.
Re: Should I Buy a Dresser with a Mirror or a Vanity Table???
^^ That's what I do as well.
I had the vanity for a while but I found out I hardly used it as lighting in the bathroom was much better for makeup, so I ended up taking the vanity out.
It's honestly your call and what you are comfortable with.
If you guys have a walk-in closet then maybe use that for clothes... or you could get both and just spray paint the vanity silver to match, you can easily find those at a craft store if you're into DIY projects. Ikea is fairly inexpensive and what most girls do is buy those long tables, a comfy chair and a mirror with good lighting and you're good to go. It really depends on the size of your room. If your room is big enough, go with the dresser and get a vanity and mirror as well. As long as it all fits... if this isn't an option then get the dresser with the mirror on top and just do your makeup that way.
Re: Should I Buy a Dresser with a Mirror or a Vanity Table???
I was thinking this a few months back and went with the first option..
I often do my makeup sitting on the bed but even if I do sit in front of the chest of drawers I find it ok, just the stool can't be tucked under obviously.. I'd rather have more space for storage anyway..
Re: Should I Buy a Dresser with a Mirror or a Vanity Table???
I would get the first one if I were you. It matches and it’s really useful, and standing in front of the mirror doing make-up is not a big problem, I guess.
Re: Should I Buy a Dresser with a Mirror or a Vanity Table???
I bought a dresser for all the above reasons and it helped me a lot in putting everything related to getting ready at one place (Jewellery, makeup, clutches, tools etc.) I also use the extra drawers to put away the under garments and lingerie.
For doing the actual makeup I go to bathroom as it has all kind of mirrors and good lighting.
It also spends on how much time and effort you need to put your make up on, I only do make up for very formal events even which is limited to foundation, lipstick and mascara so it's ok for me to standup for that much time.
