Should Hindi be recognised as official UN language?

Well what exactly is hindi? Is it that language which they speak in the films coz it sounds an awful lot like urdu? Which is good I think because it shows that language can cross all barriers :)

I know this for a fact because I've met Afghans who speak urdu, Pakistanis and Bengalis who speak urdu, and most Indians speak it as well but call it hindi. So what's in a name?

mr extreme

are bhai ... tum moderator ho ...... kuch to soch ke post kiya karo ....

X-treme yaar, I agree. I keep saying thereis no such thing as a pakistani culture. Language included. There are more Urdu speakers in India, nome sayn. Remember whatever comes in, becomes Indian. But in his case, this is Indian to start with. Hindi/Urdu have the same mothers, juist different fathers. :hehe:

Hindi is very different from Urdu!

Indian language for UN??!!!! Let them have it, since UN is not for Muslims anyway! An addition of a opressor's language will not make things any better.

why do so many Pakistanis seem depressed to see Hindi accorded official language status in the UN? That way even your leaders can use it when they speak there! be happy about it!

Yeah right, even you, the self proclaimed patriotic Mr. India of gupshup cant speak Hindi!!! Dont lie now, you told me that in a PM! This just shows how little value it has as a language. Its only spoken in the primate cities, thats it. Billions of ppl, yeah right.

^ you seriously doubt that Hindi is spoken by a huge part of the world's population? No arguement is necessary and it is simply pathetic to make up such falsehood. Even in South India folks are beginning to understand some Hindi atleast. Do you know some Hindi movies used to run 100+ days to packed house in Trichi? Get your facts right before arguing

India should just stop this facade of Hindi and start calling it by its real name: Urdu.

oh yeah, u proved my point Mr. Tapori... Even in the south people are only beginning to understand Hindi LOL So tell me how big is this South? hehe

As for rvikz, ilarh biqar malayae, Ilay?

Imdad - stop the gibberish…hush

Spock - you too…what point? you have no point to make…all you do is :crying:

Both: read very slowly:

Hindi will become offcial UN language
Hindi is spoken by half of Pakistan
Hindi is a great Indian language

Now say it again till you get it

hahaha, Hindi is spoken by half of Pakistan, what a joke

Great language? Ask any good linguist, they dont even think its worth learning.

Well, its not the official language in the UN, so go cry somewhere else jack.

punjabi is majority langugae spoken before partition? indian muslims
as part of nation building introduced urudu as official langugae
in pakistan? i may be wrong.

Forget Hindi, 'Telugu' would be a better choice.

What is the big whup? Pakistan’s national language itself is Indian. Urdu is an Indian language. So even their mother tongue is imported. :hehe:

Proper Urdu is dying in India sadly. In Pakistan, it still has a chance to survive and prosper.

Mats, the Asames brothers would take exception to being called Bengalis. You don’t want another separatist movement on your hands - do you? Oops, I forgot, there is a separatist movement in Assam. :hehe:

Yaar, it's ok. You can speak in any language you want. Try Arabic, afterall, isn't that Pakistan is anyway? Arabia?

I still don't understand why Pakistanis have a problem if Hindi is made an official language in the UN. It's the mother tougue for most of Pakistanis anyway!
