Re: Should gay couples be able to marry?
what do u mean evolve? religion is what it is it can not be evolved. People can evolve, language can be evolved even culture but not religion. It can be interpreted and changed to what suits a person or people (as we see in the bible) but then we will get very confused and lost people no?
I was being facetious, mostly. People are generally confused and lost anyhow, but that's a different discussion.
Re: Should gay couples be able to marry?
Marriage as an institution is going dead in the west. So, why do the gays want to get married? Having said that, in western context, where personal freedoms are not restricted, like in some conservative Muslim countries, gays should be given equal rights. Who you love and what you do in your personal life should be no elses is business.
Re: Should gay couples be able to marry?
Just a heads up but I don't think anyone is talking about India or any other particular nation for that matter.
Sorry about that, its just that India is currently going through a major transformation in peoples attitudes towards homosexuality, like I guess most of the west went through about 30 - 40 years ago. Homosexuality has just been decriminalized, about a year ago, and I believe that at this years Mumbai Pride Parade there were more than 3000 participants, the program was spread over a week and included open air concerts, talks, special screening of films etc. and the best part of all this is that the event went through without a hitch, or security issues, which goes to show that slowly but steadily the average (at least urban) citizen is getting tolerant.
From this to civil acceptance of gay marriage is the next step forward, and this can happen quicker in a secular country where the state has no religion, to be bound to.

Word. What purpose does marriage hold for the gay population? Social acceptance, financial, legal benefits don't seem like the real reason because in the west they already have that through civil partnerships etc. Traditionally, marriage is an institution used in religions to legalise unions between members of the opposite sex. The religion part of it has slowly evaporated in the west so their marriages are useless anyway, and now gays want to get in on the act.

Re: Should gay couples be able to marry?
Gay punna should be treated not encouraged but on a lighter note yes they should be able to marry so that at least you know whose who and don't marry someone who turns out to like his/her own sex.
Re: Should gay couples be able to marry?
oh but you would be out at the street corner** if there was a law** that said you had to be white or christian to be married, instead of saying whatever man i am happy with my bedroom situation.
Did you ever think why that is not the case?
Gays need to come up with their own term.
'Marriage' is between man and woman.
Re: Should gay couples be able to marry?
Should they have a Islamic/Christian/Jewish marriage? No
Should they have a contract that recognises them as partners and protects their assets etc etc? Yes
In the UK they can have a civil partnership, I don't see what is wrong with that.
Re: Should gay couples be able to marry?
…:k:…i was waiting for it to be pointed out too…

Re: Should gay couples be able to marry?
yes they should be allowed to, i know for a fact that if one of my loved ones was gay, i would really want them to have the same type of companionship allowed to straight people like us, it's none of our business anyways
they shouldn't have to just live together with the one they love and if they want to show their love to their Significant other by making a vow in front of God to always love, honor, care and cherish that person, nobody should stop them from doing so. they deserve the same happiness if they are lucky enough to find somebody sweet.
