Re: Should cigarette smoking be banned?

Maybe we should ban people farting in the street too, thats smells bad and is very anti-social .

Re: Should cigarette smoking be banned?

yup, smelling farts can cause serious health issues as well.. i know someone whose brain permanently curdled thanks to his wife's special cabbage and cholay...

Re: Should cigarette smoking be banned?

smokers discharging gases from up and down, atleast u can stop one!

Re: Should cigarette smoking be banned?

All those equations he memorized, that has to be weed man!

Re: Should cigarette smoking be banned?

He makes me feel inadequate!

Re: Should cigarette smoking be banned?

banning it wouldnt necessarily make it inaccessible.. there's something unsettling about trying to control the question of what's good and what's not for an adult multitude

smoking is injurious to health. comes with a warning

Re: Should cigarette smoking be banned?

lol i’d like to know.. there ought to be a solution as sensible as the thought

Re: Should cigarette smoking be banned?

I quit smoking when I realized how dumb I was. Spending money on these sticks that doesn't give me any benefit and causes harm to not just me but people around me. Also the feeling of helplessness when I'd be stuck on a plane or other such place (and feeling like a bhangi addict) wanting just one puff.

Atleast proper usage of pot does something for you. Cigarettes... nothing!

Re: Should cigarette smoking be banned?

Everyone has a right to kill themselves whichever way they want ! We are no one to judge !

I like your Roman ethical approach

Re: Should cigarette smoking be banned?

Smoking does not affect only one person

Re: Should cigarette smoking be banned?

Second hand smoke is very very very harmful as well.

I do not see a single benefit of keeping it legal...and that is my point.

Re: Should cigarette smoking be banned?

^
Economical+ financial benefits. The things we do for money sigh

Re: Should cigarette smoking be banned?

There are certainly no benefits of making it illegal either. All you will do is create a black market for the product, which will lead to crime, increased taxes to fight crime, prosecute and jail criminals. It will also lead to corruption within law enforcement, murder and theft.

Has making any drug illegal benefited society in any way? No. Drug users will always find a way to find a way to get their fix and the drug dealer will be more than happy to supply. Not to mention that the authorities will be in cahoots with drug dealers, with drug dealers paying them off.

Re: Should cigarette smoking be banned?

We've learnt in medschool how the studies providing scientific evidence against the harms of smoking were conducted and known to academics for a very long time (years and years) but ignored by governments such as the UK and the US and prevented from entering into public knowledge until relatively recently.

The fact of the matter is that they make millions in tax from cigarettes. Same goes for alcohol in Western countries. But regardless of how damaging it is to the health of the population, the ultimate factor is money.

Now there is a ban in smoking in public places in the UK and I am a complete supporter for the same in other countries. If only you guys could see the lungs of a smoker.. Trust me it is absolutely repulsive.

HOWEVER I do feel that we also need address WHY people smoke. Is it a 'cool' thing, is it rebellious, is it a form of escapism, is it sociable or is it just the norm? Society plays a huge part in influencing people's choices even when they know the damaging consequences.

Those who are addicted need support and empathy if they so wish to quit.
